Another satisfied customer here, thanks for sharing this clever solution!
At first, I tried simply heating the screwdriver with a butane grill lighter, but unsurprisingly, it was making very little progress each time I pressed it into the plastic. Then I went to the stove, and wow, I was surprised how quickly the burner got the tip of the screwdriver to a dull red glow - took maybe 60 seconds but I had it down in the blue flame. That did the trick, and it drove down some 1/4" deep in a matter of seconds with little pressure. Waited a few minutes to let it cool, and it then backed out no problem. |

FYI they sell a replacement plastic one at most auto parts stores. If you’re in a pinch you can buy it without waiting for shipping off the brass version
