Short Shifter question

So I am getting ready to purchase my E92 M3 next week , I am looking at some mods right of the bat: Huper tints, VentureS protection, still deciding if I should put a Vorsteiner VRS Carbon Fiber Aero Deck Lid Spoiler or not, anyway....

The one last mod that I am thinking of for now is the EVO3 UUC SS, now this will cost about $400 installed and in searching the forum there is just not a lot of feedback on SS's for these cars, some are doing it but many also say that the shifters on these cars are just fine and that BMW did a great job with it.
I have never driven a car with one, but have always heard is not a bad mod to have on a performance oriented car.

What do you guys think, am I better off spending the ~$400 on a different mod?

A while back i started a thread complaining about the notchiness of shifting. Since then for whatever reason my shifter has been getting a lot smoother. Now that I have hit 5000 miles most of the notchiness is gone and even though the throw is still a bit long, I like it!

I have actually bought a SSK recently and am very disappointed in the quality. So my advice is, keep it stock for a couple months. If after 5000 miles you still don't like it, get an SSK.

After 4000 miles I have gotten used to and now like the stock shifter.

I may still upgrade to a ss in the future to get rid of that rubbery feel though

I've had two BMWs, both with SSKs. Best mod for the buck, hands-down. I had a UUC shifter on my E46 M3 and a BMW Performance shifter on my 335 - both greatly reduced the throw distance and reduced slop. The action will become slightly notchier, but I actually like that. Add a weighted shift knob and you're in heaven. I think a lot of people who dislike the notchiness of SSKs are using the stock knob, which is not beefy enough and requires more effort for the driver to move the shifter through the gates. Some are concerned with possible tranny wear issues presented by weighted knobs, but it has never been an issue for me. I highly recommend trying the UUC kit with one of their weighted shift knobs

I would quite like a short shifter but not sure what options there are out there?

SSK was one of the best mods done to my Z4Ms. stock BMW shifter are horrible. i love the clicking and slotting through gears. its awesome

UUC and Active Autowerke both have kits available. See the Engine/Transmission section - there are plenty of threads about them.

I had Dinan SSK for my last e46 M3 and I was quite please with it. Coming from a e46 M3, I feel that the e92/90 /M3 shifts very nicely and doesnt require it as much effort than the last M3.

If ever I do it again, I'll stick with Dinan when it comes out, for just the short throw cosmetic reason, since OEM engages very well for me. I dont trust others that may cause premature wear on my tranny.

It looks like the BMW Performance short shifter knob fits the E92 M3 too...
