Winter Oil recommendation?
I was wondering if any fellow canucks are using a lighter weight oil during winter use.
The 10w60 is great for high revving, high temp track days but I would guess not so much during a -10 degree cold start up and short DD commute. I was thinking about switching to 0w40, either Mobil 1 or Castrol -- Both of which are fine by BMW's LL01 standards. Opinions/experience/expert advice appreciated |

Using M1 0W40 for the winter here and absolutely no complaints. The car starts easier, and the low speed "bucking" tendency the car has when cold is almost completely gone using this oil. Oil temps do run a bit lower at operating temperature as well, so I would imagine the effective viscosity the engine sees is quite similar to sheared TWS.

stick with 10w60, this whole rod bearing thing is some manufacture defect or/and unless you are revving the shit out of your car before the oil has got to proper temp.

Actually 10w60 flows better than a w30 in cold temps. It is a special oil blend.
