it is very very different than the m3 imo. a c63 kinda feels like a split between the two cars.

i would also recommend you try a 335i because i personally find the steering much better and the fun factor of a RWD car much higher than the awd audi. the audi is too big and loose imoALSO, if you plan on modding, think again. the TD1 deal with audis is apparently the real deal, and they are automatically voiding warranties on any aftermarket work done at all. any aftermarket software etc automatically triggers a code they call TD1 and is flagged on your account which results in the warranty being pulled

TBH, id say your best option is to keep waiting for the new m3 to come out. it will be much more fun to drive than the audi.
Funny you say that, Carlos Largo is saying the exact opposite in this matchup of the S4 against the new 335i, he clearly prefere the steering feel and handling of the S4! He also prefer the S4 overhall package to the new 335!

Also about modding the S4, if you need more power, there's Stasis that makes a tune to bring the power to 410hp and they match your manifacture warranty! They also offer handling and braking mods, also with warranty! Your best option if you're thinking of modding i think!

I am comparing it to the e9x. I have not driven a new 335

Also, Carlos lago has a different experience with the car than me. It handles and steers very loose without the sport diff. Idk what would happen if the car I drove did have one.

I expected to realy like the s4, but was met with disappointment

Sport diff is the game changer. It drives like a RWD with sport diff and is very fun. Don't even bother test driving an Audi without this option.

I don't think the sport diff in the S4 would change the way the steering feel but it would help with the handling! But yes the e9x has a better steering feel then the f30 but it's worst in everything else, I don't think it would be a good option for the OP, specially after having an M3 for a couple of years, it would be a direct downgrade!

It's sad to say this here but Audi seems to dominate in every category of sport sedan over BMW exept in the M3 category! IMO S4>335 S6>550 S8>760 and from what we've seen with the S6 vs M5, I think it's safe to say the new RS6 will be better then the M5! Let's just hope the next M3/M4 won't be a let down!

B8 S4 vs e90 335i

Not sure how you have prioritized specifics like fuel economy, styling, design, technology, etc. The S4/S5 competes more with the 335i/is model. However an argument can be made that it has (roughly) 80-85% of the ability of the M3 but better for DD. Being in LA, do you really need a AWD vehicle?

The cabin in the S4/S5 is nice but IMO not as user friendly as the "dated" cabin in the M3. However compare this against the current A6/S6 both in-terms of exterior and interior styling. Now this starts to look dated (especially when the 6's have the LED headlights).

Perhaps hold-on to your current M3 and wait until next year for the new model.
Thats exactly what I'm gonna do. wait for the new M3

What's wrong with finding a nice clean used E46 330i. Motor is reliable, and has plenty of torque. Just a thought.

an e46 330i has plenty of torque if his e93 m3 did not have enough torque to his liking? 330i has 225 foot pounds/230 hp. Not sure that would be more "low end" than the e93 300 foot pounds/414 hp

My wife used to own an A4 2.0T before getting her Land Rover. Obviously, it's a different car from the s4, but I was completely turned off by Audi in the 2 years we owned it. Numerous mechanical problems and fit/finish issues - ie switches breaking, trim snapping, latches breaking - the list goes on and on. I don't know if the s4 and a4 having similar steering, but if so, the Audi was definitely numb. Audi interiors are more luxurious, but after two year of ownership, it just felt like a poorly built car. I've heard enough stories from friends to make me believe that this was not an isolated experience. My 2c. I'd personally get a 550, if you are looking for comfort and torque.

I came from a e92 M3 and now driving an S4 prestige with sports diff.

S4 is the better overall daily driver

335's interior is really outdated compared to the S4

with the sports diff and audi drive select, i like the feel of the S4 better than the 335 (not the F30).

OP - if you're still on the fence

Get an S4 and then get the ecu tuned by Stasis (audi warranty is voided but Stasis takes over the warranty).

I will be getting mine flashed

I believe the power will be around 407hp/387lbtq with the flash.

not bad for a daily driver.

Other than the weight bias, which is absolutely irrelevant in the O.P's case, i'd say it's better in almost every comparable category.

faster
more grip
torque vectoring LSD rear end
better gas mileage
no lag
more responsive throttle
sounds better
better interior
better sound system
I prefer MMI over iDrive
all weather speed
DSG option

The only toss up would be steering feel. Both cars make 400whp with bolt on's, but one's much more effective at putting it down on the ground
