Are you sure? I think when I release the gas pedal the clutch departs from the flywheel because the speed = 0. And the sound I hear from the total drivetrain and nothing sound from the DCT and flywheel side. I thought that it CV-joint on the half axle, but now it is NEW half axle.

Is this “Normal”?

Curious if the people who are experiencing this issue have had their DCT tranmission sepersted from the engine at any point in time?

I think I have the same noise on my 6mt. For example when slowly backing up, every time i put the clutch in or out.
I had the two diff bolts replaced.

I had this. For me it was the center support bearing. Its getting replaced today.

I’m having the same issue in my 6MT. Please let us know if replacing the CBS fixed the problem!

Yes, as far as I can tell with only one hour long drive since pick up, it worked for me. But let me have few more days driving to see if I can reproduce it.

Good news if this works is its not that expensive to fix. $100 for the bearing, and an hour of labor to remove exhaust and replace the bearing.

For some people, I wonder how much worn motor mounts contribute to the knocking/vibration described here. In my case, just replacing the motor mounts caused the exhaust to move up a half inch. That can cause some buzzing and knocking if its touching the heat shield and my shop had to fiddle with it to get it back in correctly with enough space to accommodate without touching

Did you also replace something else while you were there? Guibo or something else. Also which is you mileage? Mine is 39k miles and I’m wondering weather I should replace other items...

I didn't do the work myself and the invoice only says the bearing. 72k miles 2008.

I have the same "tinging" sound. Like tapping a glass with a knife. I just bought 08 6MT with 110k miles and the original owner says his shop has searched and can't find the source.

I can make it happen only low speeds. When engaging disengaging the clutch. Or when going from forward to reverse.

Guess I'll try that driveshaft bearing too.

What was the issue?
I'm having the same noise, changed engine and gearbox mounts, rubber guibo on the driveshaft, diff bushings.

Google “m clunk” and you will find E46M3 owners suggesting it is the diff. I think we have the same diff but with a different ratio.

I doubt it’s the same issue to be honest. I also have a M3E46 and I’m familiar with the M clunk, the noise and feel of the clunk in my M3E92 is different.

I get a bit of a ding or clang sometimes. I have replaced motor mounts, trans mounts, diff mounts, subframe mounts, and swapped the driveshaft for a one piece carbon fiber shaft. I still get a ding or clang sometimes. The only thing I have not touched is the inside of the diff. The sounds have been there for years and tens of thousands of miles. It’s not all the time. I don’t worry about it.

I have the same exact issue on my e92 m3, just when reversing or driving off slowly, did anyone resolve the issue? its annoying :/

Mine is like a single strike of cowbell, lmaooo, just one solitary *CLUNK* when I engage 1st gear or reverse and begin the rollout...the car has to be moving. Something in the driveshaft, the guibo perhaps? I kinda like it, though. Haha

Im also having a clunk issue. I removed the driveshaft and the clunking sound still permitted. Im assuming the diff. is out. Im sure my solid diff mounts damaged my diff. I have a clunking sound in 1st gear to 2nd and also reverse.
