so if I understand Tom correctly EAS is making a retrofit of the newer harddrive based idrive for the older idrive that is DVD based? will this replace the old idrive system completely or will it piggyback the old system just adding new features?

Is this a full substitution that basically gives 2008 cars complete 2009 iDrive? Now that would be great. Would the ability to then play DVD come along or that would be another mod on top of this?

We're looking to simply retrofit the new items to the 2008 - giving you the very same iDrive system that is present in the 2009+ models.

That's exactly it. If anyone knows our background - we're a huge fan of OEM-based upgrades/retrofits, this includes EU options.

We already have the TVinMOTION covered for MY09, the CIC upgrade is going to be the tough part as nothing matches the current MY08 wiring harness on the 09 radio:

We're getting closer.

Wiring harnesses are finished - modules are being programmed as we speak. Look for an announcement in the Sponsor's section after the weekend.

How's that?

The only three new connectors (upper right of your photo) are the LVDS signal for CID (violet), the USB connection for glove compartment (beige) and the Ethernet connector (for future expansions, orange), and the two connectors that are applicable in the USA have their own separate harnesses/cables available.

The main connector (it is used as well by VW and Audi), and the two Fakra connectors (AM/FM and GPS antennas) are the same as the CCC's.

Those are the ones I am referring to - do you have a PN for the additional harness?

I believe coding has finally arrived.

Not P/N yet...

So how that coding is going to work? Are you going to sell the CIC already programmed to customers' existing iDrive configurations? Or do we have to send you the CIC for programming like an ECU flash?

For example, if my car iDrive CCC is for Premium Audio, Sirius, USB/6FL and Assist, can you sell me a CIC already programed for those devices so it is a matter of just swapping my CCC for this CIC and connecting the new HD screen and USB port in the glovebox?

Other modules are programmed during the update process, as well as updating the vehicle when completed. Not exactly sure on this one just yet.

It was possible on the e46 - things have definitely changed now that MOST is part of the game. Autologic does have a feature to program host modules, but it's not something I've tried or feel comfortable doing on a continuous basis yet on the newer lineups as the update process is very unstable.

We're going to perform the CIC retrofit on our M3 first to make sure we have a sound system, then we'll look into performing the upgrade for others.
