M3 vs M5

Driving S of 405, saw an M3 E92 Vert down AW, three passengers. I gave them a peace sign and I got a thumbs up. Cool!

Driving back N of 405, saw a brand spanking new white M5 also AW with CF wings still with dealer (crevier) plates. Every time I caught up (due to traffic), he darts ahead, drives reckless and fast, weaving in and out of traffic. It seem like he was trying too hard showing me his dick is bigger than mine. Not cool!

Well, his dick is bigger. That notwithstanding, I have been contemplating the M5 or M6 myself as a possiblity for my next car. ( I am very happy with my M3, but I am always thinking about the next car)

My main concern with these cars is traction. That much power and torque seems way too much for RWD and/or the tire sizing that BMW has chosen to put on these cars. I have also always contended that the M3 sits smack in the sweet spot of enthusiast cars. Will the less dynamic feel of an M5 or M6 leave me disappointed, or will the pure power be enough to compensate.

Anyone else here thinking about an M5 or M6 as their next car?

M5 is likely next for me, once I get bored with the Vert. But that might take awhile.

It is bigger and faster...but it is not just size, it is also motion and delivery of power...

I own both, and they are two different cars...

E92 M3 = "Pure Driving Experience"

F10 M5 = "Luxury Jetliner"

Not for me. I'm not really a mash the peddle kind of car guy. I prefer cars that are very well balanced and forgiving, and give good driver feedback. For me it is all about the connection with the car, not so much the raw power. The M3 seems to have plenty of power for the street and enough to get me to insane speeds on the straights of Road America (135 - 150 mph ) on the the three straights.

This will be the first car that any mods are focused on aesthetics vs. performance, as it really sits in a nice spot for me.

It's the same as the old dudes in the gym who lift way more than they should using terrible form. Some people just have to prove it to the world how badass they are. That goes for internet tough guys as well - which there is no lack of on bimmerpost!

Actually, he showed you and everyone else in the vicinity that an idiot was behind the wheel of an M5. Those are the individuals that create the misperception in many that BMW drivers are little different from self-absorbed children.

I'd consider adding them to the M3, not replacing. Got to play in an M6 convertible the other day. Beautiful car, inside out. But that thing is a boat. I felt like I was sitting in a cave in that car. And as a guy that DIY's, that engine bay is so crammed with pipes and hoses that you can barely see the spark plug covers.

I wouldn't start looking at these cars until they are probably $40k, kind of like where the current V10's are right now.

I currently drive an M5 coming from a E93 M, and I can honestly say that the M5 needs room to breathe to be able to drive it the way it was designed to be driven. I sometimes get frustrated commuting to work in the M5 because you only use about 10% of its ability. The M3, on the other hand, you can wind the S65 and get plenty of emotion and response from the car even in congested traffic!

I will echoe that the M5's passing power is incredible, you mash the throttle and you've gone up to 105 from 70 by the time you passed the car infront of you. That maybe why this guy was driving like a dick.
