Thats unfortunate for resale. It will be tough when they see there was a report of flood repair on the car. Don't beat yourself up over it. Shit happens and if thats the worst thing that happens in life your damn lucky.

Touche . I sympathize with the OP though. I could conceivably see mine on the verge of being totaled and being devastated...even though it's just a car at the end of the day. In my case, I could just walk away from it because it's leased (possible riff raff), but it'd still hurt.

+1 OP just read through this whole thread. So sorry to hear what has happened to your car. I'm also sorry for the crap some members have thrown your way. Here's hoping you will, in the end, wind up with another M3. Thanks for all the updates.

I would really push to have it totalled. Any indication of it being a flood vehicle on Carfax will be the kiss of death for your resale value. I had a near impossible time selling my e46 because of two minor accidents on Carfax, never mind a flood indicator. I would expect somewhere around a 30-50% reduction of resale.
This needs to be argued with the insurance company and pay for a lawyer if need be. You don't want to take the depreciation hit, trust me. |

It will be interesting to see what transpires with Geico. Lucky for me I am a lawyer and one of my partners is familiar with this area of law. I am also a business owner so i don't take off days from work due to weather unless I send all my employees home. I was following other cars and just guessed wrong. I feel bad that it happened, but as long as Geico does the right thing it will work out.
If they somehow repair and it runs fine, then I can easily hold on for four years, get an extended warranty and enjoy the car. By then it won't matter as much what is on the carfax, it won't be worth much anyway. If they don't fix, I'll look for another M3 or similar car though I think I am going to go coupe this time. Will report in as soon as I hear from Geico.

Well, these things happen..don't waste your time second guessing yourself. Hopefully, everything will work out ok in the end, and surely doesn't hurt that you're a lawyer.
How come you are thinking about going coupe instead of vert this time? |

You have to laugh at people who live across the country and think they know what it's like what you had to experience. I had some flooding, could post up a video but them Californian's wouldn't comprehend.

I am leaning coupe because of cost, and I have been thinking of upgrading my antique 66 Corvair auto/coupe for a Corsa Convertible with a 4 speed. That would solve my vert desires and allow me to get an M3. So far had no luck finding an 09 cpo.
