I'm sure you can use a suede shoe cleaner/brush for it. Can remove scuff marks and the shine.

With my e46 zcp I didn't have any issues after ~25k miles which is when I traded it. Couple years later, I saw that same car listed for sale @~56k miles with tons of pics, and from the wheel didn't seem any different either. I remember reading some threads back then with people complaining of issues with the Alcanterra wheel, how some were even able to get the dealer to replace it when it started to wear. I think it depends on the person (how much you sweat, how clean your hands are, what's in your sweat, etc...?).

Installed it this evening. Took me about 2 hours (just because I was taking my time to carefully tuck wires neatly).

Overall the wheel feel great in the hands. The top of the wheel is thicker than the rest of the wheel and feels slightly out of place in the hands when turning.

Of course all the gadgets on the wheel is pretty cool.

Here's a quick pic I took after I was done and cleaned up.

^ Looks good, can we have some pics in action if possible?

Only way I'm going to be doing this is to have a tri color one. If BMW doesn't make it happen we all know that IND will it out.....

Got mine installed today as well - as noted above, I picked up a non-electronic M-Perf II w/ tri-color on a recent trip to Germany.

Thanks to Alekshop for the install!

Love the alcantara and flat bottom...

Here's a video I made of the wheel in factory demo mode. Sorry, no music so I hope you don't get bored.

I LOVE the Performance II wheel w/ tri-color. For me it was a toss up between that and the electronic one. When I saw the electronic one for sale I had to jump on it.

Either one would be great for the track but I think yours will be better given the top is not buldged out like the electronic one.

Holy crap that thing does a lot! Is it comfortable to hold? Looks like it's inconsistently shaped, not that you need your hands up top when on the track.

Yup, the top is thicker than the rest of the wheel. Gives an odd feeling as your hand passes over the display portion when driving on the street and you need to make a full lock turn.

On the track it probably won't be a problem as your hands won't be going over the top of the wheel.

I used to track my previous E46 M3 and other cars. Haven't tracked the 2011 yet as I just broke it in and got my 1200 mile service done. Hopefully soon.

Not only in thickness, but the shape. Looks like crap IMO. If BMW wanted a flat-bottomed steering wheel, design the damn center piece to keep the steering wheel round . The whole idea of a flat bottom is to reduce the steering wheel vertical diameter. This is quite obvious on post #45, where below 9 and 3 o'clock, you can clearly see the elongated portions so the bottom of the steering wheel ends up at the same place as stock, to use the same center piece (WTF for?). To each his own though. Nobody else noticed that, so might just be my anal standards .

I didn't even realize that until you mentioned it so I went out and compared the OEM wheel with the new one. It looks to me like the ends (approx 7 and 5 o'clock position) of the bottom flat piece is what sticks out. The very bottom (6 o'clock) is perfectly lined up with the OEM wheel as well. I guess, like you said, they did this so you can fit the OEM trim peice back.

So overall, the new wheel is actually a larger circumference.
