New car with 9 miles on odometer

My brother just bought a brand new factory ordered 2011 Mercedes SL this afternoon and when he picked it up from the dealer today, the car had 9 miles on it. Is that typical? Should I recommend that he address that with the dealer and try and get something taken off?

Any insight is appreciated.

9 miles is perfectly normal. If it were like 20-30 then I'd question it.

I picked up my E93 3 days ago and it had 9 miles on it and I was actually happy.

Lets see.

You have to drive the car from the assembly line on to a parking lot. From there it will be moved once again to another spot.
Later it will be loaded on the truck and sent to port. Driven from the truck on to a boat.
From boat it will be driven again on to US soil and inspected. Driven again and parked.
Once it gets to a dealer by a trick it will be parked then later re-parked few more times as cars move around.

So 9 miles is nothing.

Mine will come into port with 1400mi on it

But that's because I drove it crazy in Germany :]

Having something like 10mi on the car is perfectly normal. They have to ship move them around when importing the cars with the carriers.

The benefits of military sales delivery in Germany. I forgot to snap a picture before I left the dealer, but this was taken at speed about 2 minutes after I left the dealer...3 miles!

If the car is ordered to a customer's specifications, no more than 10 miles should be on it.

Simply put. There is just no way to get a car from any dealer with 0 miles.

Agreed, you'd have to do ED for that.
My car read:

ODO: 000 km
Trip: 000.6 km

There were 10 km more on my car when it arrived at the dealer than when I dropped it off in Europe.

Normal

Who knows about some MB crap anyway............
If he looking for a discount because it has 9 miles on it, just shows he's not really that happy and should have bought a BMW in the first place...

I work with BMW Dealer. A few miles on odo are normal. If that exceeded 15 miles, it would be reason to wonder. No worries

9 miles, lol. I had my car in for service the other day, and the dealer loaned me a brand new vehicle to drive for a day. It had just over 100 miles when I turned it in. It'll still be a "new" car when someone takes delivery.
