i'm partial to ford for the towing tech, and the 10k tow rating of the raptor is more than enough. the rear seats fold up for the doggos. she just has it in her head that she doesn't want a truck. i think she just needs to drive one. we drove a 2018 f250 platinum diesel and she was blown away with how nice it was and how well it drove. she is encouraging me to get one of those, but she needs a car soon and i'm thinking we could kill two birds with one stone.

i think i'm done with these european diesels. all kinds of smog crap adapted to them that isn't supposed to be on there. right now i think she has a fuel delivery problem, but i'm not 100% sure. we just had the carbon cleaning done- heads/manifold/swirl flaps... now something else is causing a limp mode. the car is paid for, and we are hoping to hold out for about a year, but if the dealer comes back with a $4k estimate, its adios. its about a $6k car.
the only other diesel i would take a look at are the cayennes, but i'm not sure if she's going to go for that. i have been looking at the ~2013 cayenne S models. 400hp 4.3 n/a V8. doesn't look too complicated under the hood either. solid 7,700lb rating and porsche reliability.

11" et30 M4GT4 wheels square with295/30/18 Nankang fit. You need the correct suspension setup.

The 250s are excellent. They ride great now, same room in the cab as the 1/2 tons, & the platinum trim is really nice. The short beds are fairly maneuverable if you are comfortable backing into most parking spots. Very good daily if you plan to tow a pretty decent amount. If you like Ford's platinum trim don't overlook a non-raptor F150. The ecoboost still has a lot of pep - and it is a very capable tow rig. Comfort, tech, & all the backseat room still there. Be warned the whole trailer / tow rig thing can be a slippery slope just as bad as tracking is.

The Raptors are not great tow vehicles, from what I hear. The suspension and ride height are far from ideal for any sort of regular towing. I think the tow capacity is 8k on the Raptor, not 10k.

They are not the best tow vehicle out there but they are certainly capable of handling what he is describing.

AR Motorsports has just started building some custom 3" brake ducts for my e46 M3 with S62 GT2 car. With the stock inline six the custom AP Racing BBK was just amazing. But the car is now 20 mph faster on the straights and the brakes are barely doing their job. Basically screaming for mercy. Hopefully this helps enough. If not we will have to build a custom bracket/caliper holder to convert a 372mm for my car. AP Essex only make a 355mm kit for the e46 M3.

That's going to be an awesome truck. I didn't want to wait that long so got into a '19 F450 earlier this year. Definitely great trucks. Going to be interesting with the new 10 speed too.

I realized I never replied to this.
We focused on a variety of things throughout the day, but if I had to put it all into a few buckets: taking the car to the limit, proper trail braking, and traffic management. While some of these might sound really elementary for a person who has been doing HPDE for a while, I would say that his focus was really on getting me to do those things consistently and making me feel comfortable that I could handle it on a subconscious level. Scott rode right seat for every single session and we used his Chatterbox to communicate throughout. Fortunately, my PDR camera picked up the audio perfectly so I also have a record of it for review later! He also brought with an AIM Solo DL and hooked it up so we could review data as needed. The whole day was very humbling, to my earlier point. I wasn't exactly a slow or sloppy driver before, but I had definitely picked up some bad habits over time / gotten lazy. We spoke about this as one of my objectives when I met him in person for the first time and I now feel like I have successfully broken one of my worst habits of overslowing the car, as an example. His trailbraking coaching is probably what did the trick for that. Scott said that at the beginning of the day, I was getting the car to the limit (wiggling/oversteer) on maybe 3 of the corners. By the very end of the day, I was doing it at every corner...every time, and was able to anticipate it and drive through it without him saying anything. We knocked over 2 seconds off my time at MSR Cresson 1.7 CCW by the end of the day, with some of the predictive/flying lap times showing it was probably closer to 3 seconds if I could get in a perfect run! The next day he was on-site but just spectating for a little bit before heading home. Without him in the car, I was able to run very consistent times just above the predictive stuff on the AIM unit. I felt pretty damn good about that considering that it was hotter and the brakes/tires were pretty heavily worn. When I looked at the car's PDR data earlier tonight, there was a marked difference in things versus my laps there just two weeks ago with SCCA TNIA. My biggest takeaway: I shouldn't have waited so long to get proper coaching! I will 100% recommend Scott to anyone who has this hobby and am already trying to plan my next coaching day. Way better use of my money than better tires or whatever other upgrades I had on my shopping list. Pic related

Ultimately, it depends on the suspension and length of spring you use (and how low the car sits)......and if you use a spacer.....and.....what else am i forgetting.....oh yeah....camber.....and....yeah.....a lot of things affect what setup you can run in the front. As far as I know, a 285 does not fit on stock suspension on the front. And something tells me that the 11" rim is a problem on stock front suspension too. Aftermarket, you have some options, but again spring length and the placement of the lower spring perch is key. In all cases, once you start running rims/rubber this fat, you can kiss your fender liners goodbye in the front. Also, 285 means different things to different tire companies. A 285 in BFGoodrich land is super fat compared to other brands of tires. A 285 BFG R1S is as wide as a 305 Pirelli slick......that makes total sense.......

i'd have to go through my crawler to add some lightness if i wanted to tow it, but she could use a diet. not sure what it weighs, but its probably close to 6k.

If you can fit a 305, you should be able to fit an 11" wheel. The reality is that your 305 tire is wider than your 10.5" wheel. Therefore an 11" wheel isn't going to make a drastic difference in fitment. The wider wheel will better support the sidewall.
