ESS Supercharger O2 Readiness for State Inspection

So I'm trying to get my car inspected with an ESS VT2-625 kit and the the O2 sensors are listing as not ready. I'm on stock cats so there isn't any CEL. They are not failing, just not set to ready. The O2 sensors are not throwing any codes as well so it has to be software related.

Has anyone ever run into this with the supercharger software or is there a particular file that I need to load?

This happens because ESS uses the same file for catted and catless cars. Contact them to see if they can give you the proper file for your setup.

You need our supercharger emissions file as the standard file will not set 02 readiness. Email software@esstuning.com and AJ can supply you with the emissions file and instructions on how to use it. You can also email me anytime if you have questions Roman@esstuning.com .

Thanks, Roman. I sent AJ an email. I had called you earlier today to discuss this very issue, but it went to voicemail. Anyways, it sounds like a quick fix.

I'm experiencing a similar issue, but I'm using Evolve software. I've asked to have all cat/O2 systems re-enabled, since they also use a canned tune for catted or catless cars. I'm approximately 200 miles after the flash and still haven't had the cat or O2 sensor flip to READY.

Once your calibration has all systems enabled, you also need to fit your driving into a couple drive cycles:

They should be able to do the same thing ESS does. Make sure you follow the drive cycle a couple times and have the stock xpipe back on the car.

You'd think, right? I'm 230 miles and two full drive cycles in. I'm still sitting on NOT READY for the Catalyst and O2 Sensor with factory cats in place (and have always in place).

You're factory cats have always been installed all along?

Absolutely! I disagree with removing cats on a street car.

Ok well then i'm confused. If you have the stock xpipe on with stock cats, why are you doing drive cycles? The evolve tune should already allow readiness. Sounds like you need to contact evolve.

The key is to have the STOCK cats/xpipe installed while running a tune that allows the O2's to go ready. Aftermarket catted xpipe's generally don't work.

Why am I doing drive cycles? Frankly, because Evolve is unable to provide the calibration I've asked for. I've been in constant contact with Evolve for over three months now for various reasons. They have been attempting to provide an emissions compliant calibration now for nearly one and a half months (with no success, I might add).

Theoretically, yes, if you have an emissions compliant tune and factory cats you should be capable of passing I/M Readiness after 1-2 drive cycles. In my experience on my S2000, that happens easily in 80-110 miles.

I was contributing to this thread initially to provide the drive cycle details, which I've been going through multiple times per calibration. But since you asked, I'll tell you that I'm also dealing with this because the two calibrators at Evolve I've dealt with so far are complete imbeciles.

Well i know of two supercharged evolve cars that passed emissions so i'm sure it can be done with just a NA tune. I'm actually trying to get it done now so I feel your pain. My car is at ACM at the moment getting some things done then i'm going to try and pass. From what i heard from those two guys, you need to do the drive cycle perfectly and have the stock xpipe/cats on the car.

My "tuner" is now blaming my O2 sensors. There are no thrown or pending DTCs yet both Catalyst and O2 Sensor are both NOT READY.

When you start your car, does the check engine light come on shortly before going off? If not (if it never comes on), then your entire engine warning systems have been disabled and that would explain why you don't see any codes. Please check this.

You hit the nail on the head. No Check Engine light any longer. Regardless of the readiness states, a car cannot pass emissions if the Check Engine light does not illuminate upon startup.

I just checked mine after getting another tune and my CEL shows up for a brief second while cranking the car over.

In Texas, you're allow to have 1 of the 3 sensors show as "Not ready" and still pass. I've done it the past 2 years as I was battling some Procede issues that repeatedly triggered the "Increased Emissions!" warning. I reset the OBDII readiness (disconnected the battery for a bit) completed the drive cycle up to the point where the 02 sensors were shown as "Not ready", took the car in, and passed. I can scan a copy of the pass cert. if you'd like.

Is there any reason outside of principle that you can't remove the tune, go through the drive cycle and pass, and then re-install the tune?
