FYI I installed new grilles. The headlight i did at the same time. Thats why i stated that it was done. Read before you laugh 😝

Just tried to deal with this gap on mine tonight. I stacked three thin washers under each of the 4 top bolts in the bumper. Seemed to help, but only slightly. The gap is still there! I'm in the same boat as the OP, the gap is hard on the eyes. I also adjusted the rubber bumpers down pretty low. I would bet the hood is not even contacting them anymore. From what I can tell it looks like the center of the hood where the spring mechanism is located is the culprit. Doesn't seem to be any way to adjust that area though.

I had similar issue. I ended up adjusting the striker hooks on the underside of the hood. Sorry the terminology could be incorrect.
If I remember right you need to remove a screw and plastic bracket which then allows the hook to be turned in or out to close the hood gap. Be careful not to screw to far in as the end of the screw may touch the underside of the hood.

I thought this level of panel gap was normal?

+1. Had the same issue after my M Performance Grille install.

Adjusted the hooks on the hood a little lower and it looks perfect now. You just need to watch the sides where it meets the fenders to make sure you don't throw off that body line. I did go 2-3 full turns lower though

I think a bigger problem is that cheap carbon fiber aftermarket emblem lol. No but for real I don’t see how changing the grilles would change the gap.....oem or aftermarket. Probably as easy as loosening the top 4 screws and adjusting it. The top of the bumper rests on the core support. So unless you removed that, I don’t see a permanent problem. Try adjusting it again.

Wow this thread was started 4 yrs ago lmao didn’t notice that. Let’s see how that crappy carbon fiber emblem looks like after 4 years.
