Sorry man, your arugments have at this time been disproven not only in theory, but now in real results. 335i = M3 around F1 track in real instrumented testing. 335i = or faster than M3 in straight line. 335i $25K+ cheaper "apples for apples" About the only argument left is stock-for-stock N'ring times, which since we don't know the official M3 time and we don't have a 335i time (with "chip") that remains theoretical. |

$25k cheaper? So you are stating a base M3 will be $65k. Very incorrect. But go ahead with your concocted ideas and pass them as fact. It only further lowers your credibility.

You say "stock-for-stock" then go on to add a "chipped" 335i time is needed to compare. You can't even keep it straight. Exactly what point are you trying to make?

I though the chipped was assumed, apple-for-apples meant similarly equipped actual OTD prices stock, thus it was only on the price line. Anyway, when one gets down to arguing grammar and semantics in a thread, yes we have thread meltdown. The point I was making was agreeing with your edit of e36jakeo's post: "but at its $40-50K price point the MODDED 335i is for sure the all-around performance coupe/4-door champ." |

You don't need a Dr. to tell you this discussion is moribund...
Modded car beat some non-modded cars in a short, straight race...

That is me
I made a fairly snide new post and comments in others about closing posts. This one was re-opened. Let's do keep it as civil as possible so we don't keep getting such "big brother" effects. Shoot, that may get this one closed again.

I am so surprised that being new to this site but it's the very first one which has in-house fighting among fellow BWM owners, in this case M3 vs 335i.
It's a change for the norm on other sites which is arguments on either BMW vs Audi or BMW vs Mercedes. Who really cares if a modded 335i is quicker than an M3, all this gets you is bragging rights down at the local pub, it's childish guys. As someone already stated a modded car is always quicker than stock but some people like myself don't want or wouldn't have a modified car for one reason or another and I am happy with my slower but most stylish M3. |

I agree. I mean who the hell really cares ... ? I've got an '08 335Xi, simply because I need a vehicle that can also be a high-performance snowmobile that I can stuff the odd client into the back of. I really want the new M3 .... maybe next year (IF the price BMW Canada rapes us for ever starts to come down).

I love the M3. I will prefer the M3 over the 335i since it is developed more on the track with a truly race-inspired engine and chassis (plus better cooling, I hope). But don't take anything away from the 335i just because I mention them both in the same sentence.

This might put the cat among the pigeons but I bought the S5 because at the time I felt and still do feel that it is a better all-round performer than the 335i, it's more individual than the 335i which looks like dare I say all other 3 series coupes and it's engine note is better (v8 is hard to beat) and is more rare to boot. I know it cost more but at the time it was much cheaper than the M3 and suited my requirements.
