The AMP is always on the left side, although cars with the ESP or higher end amps have different trunk trim that sits higher there (by the tissue box ). Under the trunk mat there are only a few possible configurations: 1) Nothing. Base car no options 2) TCU only (right side) This will be 08-11 cars w/ Bluetooth phone support (before 11.5) A MULF unit mounted underneath it for those with the center USB - you can't see this without removing the bracket. 3) A satellite receiver on the left side with a big fan for 08-10 cars If equipped. 4) A combox only (11.5 and up - takes the place of both the TCU and MULF) and if vehicle is equipped with Sirius, it doesn't use the external tuner on the left anymore). So it would be just that box (the one with ridges in it) vs all 3 units in a fully loaded 08.

So I figured I would pull the CD/tissue tray and see if an AMP was beneath it. I have the enhanced premium sound (sticker shows $1,900 paid by the poor guy who owned the car before me ). Also, this thread confirms it is an enhanced premium sound AMP. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=399682&page=2 I think this is the highest end amp they have right? Yet it is with this tissue tray covering, not a trim that "sits higher" like you mentioned. I have seen what you are talking about and perhaps the older cars pre 2011 have the higher area? Or maybe the area is higher because of the CD changer I read about in the trunk hence the higher area??? .....oh boy, who cares right? Also: Quote:

That is the latest EPS amp, there were three different configurations BMW produced. First one was in the 08's, and then a second came out - and finally a third which separated the power and ground wiring to an alternate connector.
You can tell if you have EPS if the trim around the speakers is silver as opposed to all black. They also have Kevlar cones and you will see equalizer settings in the iDrive. It might be the sedans that have the raised trunk trim, so I could be wrong about that. 02/11 is considered an 11.5, so you are correct that it's combox equipped with an internal Sirius tuner built into the navi unit itself (and a blank space under and to the left of the combox)

Sure enough have the silver around the speakers and equalizer. So a 02/11 build is a 11.5 so now everything is making sense. |
