Exclamation Need some advice for this M3 that's from the states!

Hey, guys! I'm trying to get into an E92 M3, but found this "deal" on an E90. It's from the states, so I wanted to get some opinions. Would you consider this a good deal or does it seem sketchy? I've been keeping an eye on this one for months now and they've lowered their price to the point where I can't ignore it even if it's an E90.

Here's the link:
http://www.velocitycars.ca/certified...aa699893a9.htm

I originally saw their ad on Auto Trader and have been keeping watch of it ever since. Apparently it has no accident records and it comes with a 1 year powertrain warranty? I'm from Alberta, so I'd have to make arrangements to go pick it up or get it shipped. What do you all think? It's pretty low mileage. Any advice and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Make sure that they provide you with a US history, not just ICBC provincial history. Look for flood, accident, insurance claim, write-off, mileage roll-back, lemon law etc.

Buyer beware for sure...

That makes it about $40k Canadian. Not really such a great deal. You can find plenty of local 2008 cars for less than that. And factor in all the extra taxes and duties you have to pay, in addition to any modifications to make it street legal for Canada.

oh ok my bad. I read the part of the OP about it being from the states and I thought he was importing. Yes, that would be a pretty good deal. But OP make sure you plan to keep the car a long time. If you sell it too soon you will have to sell for a lower price being its a US car, so financially you break even anyway.

Thanks, for the advice! I'll try and get some records from the dealership. I'm not sure how much they'll give me over the phone/E-mail, but I'd hate to fly down to BC and then have them lie to me about its condition.

I do plan on keeping it for at least a couple of years. I'm wondering if there are any mechanical differences or specific things I should look for since it's a USA car?

The biggest one would be some of the standard equipment. Heated seats in most cases are an option in the US, part of their cold weather package. Run the VIN on bmwvin.com to see option content compared to a Cdn car.

I would pass - saw this car months ago too. Looks poorly modified, been siting on the lot for a long time. There must be some stories.

It's a 2008... One of the worst years for bearing failures... Have the oil thoroughly tested by blackstone...

Wheels look damaged.

Looks like an e92 muffler instead of an e90 muffler, what's the story there?

30k$ is what 2008 M3s are worth around now... You're just entering the season where M3 prices drop to their lowest, winter, take your time, no rush...

I rushed my purchase and a better one came along a month later... Slight regrets...

Have seen it in person as well, it's in rough shape for its age. Very shady dealership as well, just google them. I'd rather pay a little more for a few years newer and better condition.

Where you get the idea 08 m3 worth 30k now?
Clean 08 m3 was tad over 40k last year.

I'm simply basing it on autotrader and cars.com. I was looking last night, and from what I saw, most 2008 M3s were being offered slightly above 30k$... Of course, the very low mileage and cleanest ones are worth more... I have a feeling the values will drop slightly over the winter, as they do every year....

PS. I'm not sure I understand, but BMW.ca has a couple 08 for sale and they're asking in the upper 40s.... So maybe I'm way off...

Where's you're evidence for that? Don't be deterred by a 2008MY OP, there's no direct correlation between MY and Bearing failure....but yeah the price is high.
