The risk of buying a used clutch is too high. If it doesn't work your back to square one. Then the labor is doubled and you eat the cost of the used parts.
yah thats very true..... I probably can get the used set for in the 500s for the 30k mile pressure plate/clutch/flywheel combo...

I think im going to talk to bmw regarding flywheel coverage and pendingoutcome order the 09 parts from getbmwparts.

135er, does the 'pressure plate with disk' also include the throw out bearing?

He's probably blowing you off because the clutch isn't going to get contaminated from the failure of a push-style externally-mounted slave cylinder The clutch/flywheel is sealed off from the outside, if it was possible to soak the clutch in fluid from a slave cylinder failure, then it'd be possible to soak the clutch when driving in the rain.

Not sure where you got that idea.

I've had a slave cylinder blow out on a BMW. Brake fluid will not contaminate the clutch disc.

The pressure plate had an internal failure.... The mechanic said it was a shame I had to replace the flywheel and the clutch disk as they looked brand new. He advised me to call Bmw as it was obvious that this part had a faulty design to suffer such failure/the fact that bmw didnt offer the part.

I spoke with the service director, who took my number down and told me to talk to corporate. I spoke with corporate, explaining the entire situation to them.... How the car has 32k miles on it with no signs of abuse... How in order to replace the pressure plate I have to buy a new clutch and flywheel because bmw superseded the defunct clutch assembly from 2008...and how the flywheel is 1700 bucks while the pressure plate+clutch are only 600... They didnt care, they said that they couldnt good-will my car because it was 13 months out of warranty. We all know that is crap as the policy is 18months.

The bottom line is bmw has terrible customer service. I had a friend with a CLS550 with a similar issue and mercedes took care of him without any event. I wasnt even asking for the cost of the entire repair, simply compensation for the flywheel.

Either way, I am a 28 year old physician with a high earning potential through my lifetime and will not buy another Bmw for myself. It isn't even the cost of the repair, as honestly, that wasn't a big deal to me. It was more-so the poor customer support and throwing owners under the bus for manufacturing errors. I cannot support a company with such poor ethics.

I ended up replacing the clutch disk/pressure plate/throwout bearing/flywheel with the 2009+ parts out of pocket. I found a 2008 pressure plate for sale off a car prepped to race, but I didn't want to tempt fate/I don't skimp on my car.

That stinks, but I guess it's over with for now. For what it's worth I've yet to see any goodwill over 12 months as well.

Yah it's unfortunate but I do thank you for all your help 135er. The funny thing is BMW calls me after and asks me why my survey rating was so poor.
