I am Very Confused about this ordering process and Debut on Friday
If the M3 is Debuting for North America This Friday, why havent all the dealerships start allocations yet ? (besides dummy allocations being ready to be enterned for the system)
Or am i falling behind the allocation process? Are we waiting for the pricing that will be hopefully be released at LA Autoshow ? :sad0147:

The car won't arrive on dealer lots until March. With that it is likely that allocation slots will be handed out around mid December. It is very possible that the final US MSRP will be released at the LA auto show since that is the Debut for the M3 in the US. Similar to how the Frankfurt auto show was the World Debut for the new M3, but poeple didn't start receiving their cars until October. A month or so after.
There is obviously a vast time delay being employed here by BMW and its likely they want take to either work out any consumer issues that first buy owners have with the car, or any pricing issues to make sure it sells like hot cakes in the States. |

Undoubtedly BMW has a floating chart that factors in many things that change day by day. My guess is their number crunchers are watching European sales, worldwide sales, the Euro-Dollar exchange rate etc...they will figure out what profit they can project worldwide per unit after taking all those items into account including the proposed US base price, and averaging their per unit profit.

I think pricing release is very close. A indication was the dealers calling people on their list to see what options they wanted. So i wouldn't dout it if official price will be released Friday, or even sometime this month.

I think we will see some cars in the dealers late Feb. I spoke with my dealer yesterday, and he said they officially got their first allocation. However, allocation does not seem to mean production, so there is some lag there. He was saying late Feb delivery is likely for that first allocation.

Late February... thats not too bad. Just like BMW being generous with their arrival estimations with most of the Euro cars that are on these boards. I think most ended up arriving like 2 weeks early.
Yay BMW! |

Yes, it is reasonable to assume they would be conservative in their press releases. But I don't know that they said anything more specific than Spring'08 officially. The real question is will DCT be on that first car?

Yes, but you can't expect DCT info to be on a PR doc dated Nov 2nd since it is not announced yet globally. The fact that they don't mention DCT there doesn't exclude the possibility of the first batch of US cars having DCT. It could simply be announced with an additional PR in Jan or something. Or we wait until summer. Either way, BMW will release another PR on DCT at some point.

I don't believe there have been any spy shots of a DCT setup in an M3 interior yet, have there?

No spy shots of it at all. No one has a clue what the shifter and paddles will look like.
Personally, I really hope it doesn't look like the M5 knob. That thing looks way too bulbous and a bit to feminine to be in the M3. I always thought the e46 SMG knob was pretty well conceived. e60 M5 SMG Shifter: e46 M3 SMG: |

I wouldnt be surprised if the official price of the M3 is released this week. I also wouldnt be surprised if BMW launched the MDCT in BMW's largest market.

I could live with SOP 3/08 for DCT but it would hurt.

Well, judging by the 6MT vs. DCT poll alone it would seem clear which option is going to be the bigger bread winner. I'm sure BMW knows that from SMG sales so personally I would be very surprised if the M-DCT wasn't ready by 1st quarter 08.

At the Miami car show on Sat, a guy from BMW said that release dates were pushed back to Summer. I am hoping that he doesn't kno what the hell he was talking about.

Hey guys first time poster.
My dealer called me today and said he put my reservation into the computer to generate an order and it came back saying M-DCT will NOT be available on the first run of production cars for the US. I hope BMW changes this or at least M-DCT becomes available by the start of summer. Last edited by spridell; 11-14-2007 at 01:21 AM.. |
