M3 beats GT-R and Porsche turbo in C&D comparison test

Just got the latest issue of Car & Driver in the mail today, and it includes a comparison review of the Nissan GT-R, Porsche turbo, and the M3. The M3 won, despite being the slowest, basically on the grounds that it's a better DD and less expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I love the M3, but this was stretching things a bit.

Here are the first 5 pages -- my apologies, no scanner at home, just some quick pics, you will just have to run out and buy a copy, or better yet get a subscription! Next 5 pages follow in a post below.

I love it. You can squint your eyes and call any car a winner depending on what you are looking for.

I was thinking about the GTR seriously but the avilibility was bad and so the dealers wanted +$20K

Also I wanted a real 2+2 for my family, the rear seats in the M3 coupe are exceptional next to the GTR or 911. I mean if you are giving points for rear seats probably the GTR and 911 would get zero.

the more I read car and driver the more im convinced that BMW contributes the most money to that mag. Really the M3 beat those two cars in a comparison test because of how cheap and awesome it is? They are incredibly biased toward BMW's.

I have not read the article, but honestly the 911 turbo costs 2x as much as the M3. I mean you can buy a GTR and a M3 for the asking price of the 911 turbo. There is not way in hell the Turbo is worth combined price of M3 + GTR. There is a reason whey Porsche was making the most profit per car. $127K for a base 911 turbo.

2x the cost (if they can get it) is great for Porsche not so great for real world comparison.

Just like any mags that does the review, they are all subjective. No matter what they say, good or bad, I will still like my M3. The only review that matters most is mine. The others will just be a confirmations of what is good or bad on what I already know. Five more weeks before ED.... and counting.

It certainly is the buying decision that I would make. It all depends on what the priorities are. Clearly the M3 is, gasp, the most practical of the three.

Reading between the lines, the C&D crew seemed to emphasize real world fun to drive and practicality in this test.

Gents, keep in mind there is more to any car than raw performance numbers..... Aston Martins would be shite if that were not the truth....

Here are the last 5 pages. If someone puts up a proper scan, if we are not violating some copyright, then I'll dump the photos.

"Every other manufacturer should give up on building their own cars and just make M3s instead!"

No matter what car go against E9X, the 3 will always win in Car and Driver. In those CAD journalists' mind, the 3 would simply beat any car on earth. M3 beating GT-R? Whatever. They must think the only car beating 3 is another 3. I would like to see which they would choose, 328i or 335i or M3?

C&D has always been BMW bias, but if the M3 was not a great car, they would have had no choice but to pick the gtr or 911. If you read the article they do give good evidence on why they like the M3 more, and it is hard to fault their reasons. Even still I woudln't normally say these 3 vehicles are even in the same league, we are talking 90k for the gtr right now, and 911 turbo well over 100. The Top Gear test should be more in line with the m3's direct competition, and the m3 was chosen there aswell.
