Are my bearings toast? I know that these reports aren't definitive but still a bit alarming. Any idea, with the exception of leaded fuel, that could cause this?

You really need multiple reports to make any kind of educated guess. At the miles your car has, I would think about maybe swapping out the bearings but thats your call.

Wait and get one more reading. For all you know the oil could be quite old

Just had my first analysis done. Purchased approximately 2 years ago with ~17,000 on the clock.

Sample was with 36,350 miles on the engine and ~7,000 on the oil.

All looks good for the time being. Will continue with regular analysis from now on.

Can someone officially explain what each component in the engine is made of? We hear a lot about lead on pre 2010 bearings and maybe aluminum or copper (?) on 2011+ bearings. What about all the other components / metals that show up in these reports? How about iron, for example?

Advice/ Insght?

Here's my analysis that I got today. I've done oil changes on regular intervals with OEM TWS. No track time or hard launches, only spirited driving. The car has about 52,XXX miles and it's a 2008 E93.

Normal report for a e9x M3. You will see some bearing wear on these cars, as evident from many sets of rod bearings documented here and on the M5/M6 forums. Keep an eye on it over the next few oil changes and pay for TBN at least once to establish a change interval. I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

Whats TBN?
In simple terms it tells you how much life is remaining in your oil.

So it looks like USPS lost my oil sample in the mail...

Does anyone know when's the earliest I can get another usable sample?

So it looks like USPS didn't lose my oil sample... just took them about a month and half to deliver it ...

I was completely surprised Blackstone sent me an email with my analysis report just now but here it is @121K:

Judging from the comments in the analysis.. it seems like my engine is running fine? Let me know what you think.

In one word..."Congrats" !
Question: On what oil brand/spec are you running ?

Here is my latest report and it looks great. My E92 has a build date of 02/09 so it has the leaded bearings correct? If that is true then my motor seems to be wearing very nicely with an avg of 1ppm lead.

To be completely honest, I have no idea. The oil that I sampled came with the car when I purchased it, which was at 121K haha.. the oil was pretty dark when we did the oil change so I was a bit worried. On the CarFax my M3 was registered as a company car and there wasn't much dealer maintenance history when I checked.. there was a lot of unknowns other than the fact that the PPI checked out okay.

I'm glad to see that the engine itself is healthy from what the comments on the report says!

If you could contact the previous owner and ask him about the oil...we all would know also .
This could be also very interesting knowing about the Worldwide bearing problems of the S65 engine and the never ending dicussions about the best oil to use for the S65...
But I don't know if that's possible for you to chase after previous owner with the question what oil was used ?
Thanks in advance..

I wish it was that easy

I got my car through a dealer buddy of mine who picked it up from an auction so I have no idea who the owner is. However... I do have his/her's work address on the navigation. After Googling the address, it brought me to a medical office of about 12-15 specialty doctors. Been contemplating calling the place and asking for the previous owner but I don't even know his/her name so it'll be tough

I do know however this car was a PA car and it was probably driven mostly highway. I assume the previous owner just used the dealer recommend 10W60 that most of us use.

I don't think you would know if the rod bearings were changed on this car do you?
