Does the M3 have a CDV?

I was just wondering about this today. I don't know if any of the E9X cars have one, much less the M3..

All the standard MT cars do I believe but I don't think the M3 does.

The E46 M3 does have a Clutch Delay Valve. I removed mine but it did not make any noticeable difference. Not sure about the E92, but it may be part #13 in this diagram (as we discussed earlier, these parts are for standard manual tranny, not M-DCT as labeled): http://bmwfans.info/original/E92/Cou...1/ill-21_0208/

I would not suggest removing it until the warranty is up, since claims for transmission or clutch issues could be denied if it is missing. Zeckhausen will sell you a "modified" CDV so the dealer cannot tell it has been removed. Here is some good info on the little beast: http://www.zeckhausen.com/CDV.htm

Wouldn't suggest that either.

Apparently from my understanding it mechanically slows down the release of the clutch (even though the pedal says it's all out), which should make the clutch more indirect, harder to shift without any jerking motions (especially between 1st and 2nd up shift) and finally the "slowed down" engaging action results in extensive wearing on the friction plates(?).

Might be totally wrong here though... Please correct me if this is the case.

so there is a cdv on the m3.
Then has anyone replaced theirs with a modified one?
I was planning to order one from Riss racing and wondered if it has been done on an m3 yet

I don't know about the E9x M3. But the E46 M3 had it in both the manual and SMG transmission versions. Wouldn't be surprised if the 6MT E9x M3s have it. I would be surprised if the DCT versions had it.

BTW, no other manufacturer uses a CDV. So, I doubt you will do any harm by removing it. It just keeps those who are first learning to shift manually from dumping the clutch too hard and breaking something.
