Gas mileage getting progressively worse

When I first got my car I was getting around 210-220 miles per tank.

It's an E93 M3 with 90% city driving in hot and humid Miami.

Over my last few fills i'm noticing my mileage getting lower and lower.

It went down to around 200 miles per tank. Then I was getting around 190 per tank. On my last tank I only managed 179.

I have not changed my driving style and the weather here has actually gotten a bit cooler.

I'm scheduled for my next maintenance service in October. Is there anything in specific I should tell them to check to see what the issue could be?

Perhaps it's the price per gallon that's going up?

I'm talking about a full tank of gas. I fill up to full every time.

Our stock air-boxes are extremely good at flowing air in... so much that sometimes your filter could get clogged in with debris... so thats why you might be experiencing a decrease in your range...

Either open you airbox to see whats up or try this... buy an aftermarket air filter I got the ape performance one... I know this will sound crazy but they improve the car quite a lot for city driving due to better throttle response and milage goes up... with the stock filter I used to get 240 miles on one tank on shell now with the ape air filter I got 270-290 and very nice throttle response...

So give it a try... this is on a 2009 E92

Hmm..that could be it. That sounds like a significant performance increase.

I know Dom!
I don't even drive hard...I go over 7k rpm probably once a day and that is only when i'm getting onto 395.

Perhaps my air filter is really blocked up. I'll check it out. Any other ideas?

wow, thats great...i get less than 200. almost all city driving.

@the OP, the performance of your engine is going to change over time...so this is probably totally normal. also, are you calculating your miles per tank based on your trip-meter and the gas receipt? or are you going by what the computer tells you the range is?

I'm calculating by resetting the trip odometer when I fill up and then going by what it says by the time I fill up next.

how do you know when to fill up? or are you dividing the number of gallons you pump into the number of miles on the tripmeter?

I average ~17 MPG so usually I manage to get ~ 250 miles per tank with 75% HWY.

you'd be surprised what a couple of really short drives around town can do to lower your MPG. Do an extra one of those and even just slightly less on the highway or longer cruising drives and you can easily see a drop in MPG

its just the different routes you take. some times you are sitting in traffic more than others. I get about the same as you. Around 200 per tank.

I've never gotten more than 200 miles a tank. in fact i've never even gotten 200 miles a tank. i usually get gas every 150 miles, with a 1/4 tank left. i probably drive 50/50 city/highway. if you do any type of city driving, mileage on this car is horrible. like another poster said, even just a few short trips in the city, will greatly reduce your mpg

+1

I have seen my avg. mpg go down to 16 from 18 - 19 since I stopped using my car as a daily driver (fewer long hwy trips).
