Macht Schnell X-pipe? Do or dont?

Looking to liven up my e92 m3.. It's pretty much completely stock besides the muffler-bypass done to it.

Anyone have an aftermarket X pipe like the MS or Bimmerworld one? How's the sound? Much louder? Raspy? I would get the Macht S X-pipe with resonators.

It's really tough to get a feel for the sound from youtube videos, they all sound the same to me no matter the exhaust mods..

Would the x-pipe plus the muffler bypass mod make a nice sound? thanks

The MS is just an aftermarket version of the stock xpipe. The Bimmerworld has the x moved to allow for more flow/power. Idk why people by the MS one when the bimmerworld one exists. I have the bimmerworld and its awesome. A bit raspy around 2.5k but I haven't actually heard it from the outside.

thanks. Yeah I guess the appeal of the MS is you can easily swap back to full stock. Can also do that with the bimmerworld one.

I'm honestly not too concerned about power, the car is just for an enjoyable drive to and from work. My main complaint is that there is nowhere to open the car up, I'm always stuck behind people, lights, cops ect. So at least a nice rumble would liven things up

Hows the bimmerworld x pipe sound just cruising around town with the windows down? What's your muffler? Thanks

I have a CNT Exhaust, just a cheap exhaust for now. It sounds good, Quite deep and racey and at higher RPM it screams. I need to find a valved exhaust as it can be quite loud.

We have been doing the MS x-pipes for years and seen numerous other brand x-pipes on our dyno to compare. The difference is really negligible moving the x portion location from what we have seen. Some people swear by that but havent seen much difference if any. The gains from the x-pipe come from deleting the restrictive primary and the secondary cats. MS x-pipe is good for about 20 horsepower and paired to a OEM modded muffler will be load. Depends also if you have the bypass method or the perforated method. Perforated method would be slightly quieter.

Going along with this.
People have dyno'd to show moving the x pipe does have some gains, but either way the e9x M3 can't be tuned to be that fast unless you supercharge it. So Another 5-10 HP lets say isn't going to make a noticeable difference for most people. For x pipes we mostly recommend ones that are of course high quality and generate the sound/tone you're looking for. Moving the x pipe usually generates more rasp than keeping it in the OEM spot.

Go with what you feel suits you best for sound and affordability. The MS X Pipe is one of the most popular for the S65. Of course we can't upsale ours yet because it's not in production haha.

I doubt the location of the X is more than several rwhp or lbs rwtq, but if chasing every last bit of power, I would go with a forward X rather than a stock location one. Definitely not a priority. Most pipes have the rear location.

Get your self something resonated, MS with a bypass muffler is extremely loud.

I have quad resonated and it is not quite enough with an aftermarket rear exhaust. Sounds great but just a tad too much around town.

Thanks for that detailed response Kevin. I have the ACM Bypass done, not the perforated pipe mod.

Again I'm not too concerned with power gains at all, I don't have any tracks near me. 414hp is enough for my work commute. Really I'm just looking for a bit more oomph in the sound department

If you have a reworked OEM muffler (bypass), any X-pipe that omits resonators/cats will be very loud. Usually we recommend going back to the stock muffler.

We've dynoed 700+whp M3s with stock mufflers, they are not restrictive at all.

I have the BW Resonated x pipe. Paired with Corsa mufflers, the sound is high pitched, clean and exotic sounding. Moving the x forward makes a difference in sound. Trust me, I had test pipes and OEM mid section with the Corsa before —The BW x pipe livened it up.

There's a TINY bit of rasp around 2.5k rpm. But who cares? No one should be driving under 4K rpm in an S65...

The X further in the front should gain more power in the midrange, but the most important is the sound. All these setups sound way more high pitched and exotic than standard x-pipes.
And I don't think the rasp is worse, I have a quad resonated one, sounds epic paired with a Billy Boat muffler.

If I were to buy one, I would probably go with the newest bimmerworld xpipe. Seems to be the cheapest too.

Dct shifts at 2100rpm when you’re driving like a human FYI.
