Alex probably has the hardest worked e9x on here. That trans deserves a retirement with full honors.

Finding new ways to get cancer lesson learned, get a flexible scraper... hardly any surface is flat and that made it more challenging. Heat is 100% the way to go, it comes off easily but it was rough getting around some of the bumps, will weight it all tomorrow when my gf brings over her food scale LOL

Also scrape AWAY from the heat gun/yourself... incase you slip up and a hot piece of tar lands on your finger

^Any reason you didn't use dry ice? You just sit a bunch on that crap and then it's supposed to come off real easy. I've never done it myself but it's always what I've seen as the go to method for removing exactly that stuff.

I've seen and read about that, there's also a youtube video of someone doing this versus heat. The heat is VERY easy. I mean the stuff scrapes off like soft butter. The clean up might be an extra step but this was easier than handling dry ice. I also wouldn't quite know how to use the dry ice on vertical surfaces?

ChrisFix actually just did the dry ice trick to remove the sound deadening. Seems to work well.

Edit: Jump to 14:25. That's roughly where he starts doing the dry ice work.

with a little bit of creativity any thing can be done.. HEAR ME OUT!

take a plastic bag or something. shove dry ice inside it and just tape the opening of the plastic bag to the vertical areas of the side wall

RIP FELLOW DCTer.

main reason why i also picked up a spare DCT when i saw it pop up for $1500 from a wrecked M3. Easier to swap than to rebuild.

Pickup those spare DCT's while they are still cheap-ish.. Seems like everyone wants to mate them to other chassis with motor swaps these days lol

It comes off so easy with a heat gun that it's not worth your time (or money) to go and pick up dry ice.

These cars also have so little sound deadening material that it doesn't take long at all. Compared to E36's or even the E46's there's like 1/5th the amount.

Just finished the back seat area. Next tip: don't overheat the stuff, if you heat it up just right you can do a "prying" motion and it will come off in sheets.

Rough guesstimate is 5.5 lbs, I held onto the scrapings on my scale and weighed the difference

Are you going to use any kind of adhesive remover to get it completely smooth?

I think so, eventually just to clean it up. I did buy some Goof Off which should melt the stuff easily

help~

i'm running F80 513m wheels
18x9, et 29
18x10, et 40 with 18mm spacers

have been using Michelin PS4S
245/40/18
275/35/18

ordered conti ECS but the 275/35/18 are backordered so looking at different sizes
i thought 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 were closer in diameter so that's why i was using that combination before

should i be using this instead?
245/40/18 + 265/40/18 or
255/40/18 + 265/40/18??

is 275/40/18 too tall?

I ended up picking up a used transmission for ~ $1800 from a 78k mile donor. Oh well. Also picked up the fall line kit "while we're at it" - https://ind-distribution.com/collect...-track-package

Need this for June 26 track day, so tight schedule for getting everything back together - my E46 post refresh (9668 AP racing kit + resealed transmission - it was leaking and it was annoying me) is also ready in case I need to use that car instead.

It's hard to estimate track miles on my old car, but with ~ 85 track days I'd say probably at least 12000 of those are track miles.

I usually do Wine Country Motorsports, but that's because they have a local branch here in Sonoma and they have a huge selection. For this kind of thing you always want to try the stuff on in person as much as you can because fitment is super important.
