E93 seems slow below 3k

I have a 09 E93 M3 and I cannot break traction from standstill with a WOT.

The car lazily gets to 3k before coming alive.

Spark plugs were done 6k ago, no fault codes stored.

My 335i would break traction easily, with this I can't even get the TC light flashing.

The car is on 42k miles, been serviced meticulously it's whole life.

In MDM mode does the same, not even wheel chirp or hop it just sleepily gets to 3k before taking off.

Any idea what it could be?

Ha, no.

But turbo lag is how I'd best describe it.

Mine doesn’t spin with new tires. A 335 has an open diff and narrower tires. I could dump the clutch and spin. I would say a convertible would be even harder to break traction.

Perhaps this isn’t the car for you. At 3k rpm your probably putting down around 150 whp, less below that.

Don't get me wrong I love the car to bits, but I just expected a bit more drama from a V8 under wot.

I hate these posts and the lazy drivers that complain of low torque on a 4 liter race engine that goes past 8,000rpm.

You're the problem, not the car. It's also a vert.

Is this different than you are used to with this car? Meaning, did this car perform better previously?

Trying to figure out if it’s a problem with the car or the platform in general as others have highlighted

When I got mine I was similarily disappointed. I had E46 330 before and I swear it felt faster. I learned to love the E93 M3 by now but it's definitely really slow in low RPM. Usually the higher the engine revs the less power in makes low down so there's probably nothing wrong with your car it's just how it is below 3k RPM. Whenever you want "drama" you just need to drop the gear. This engine is starting to make power above from ~4500 RPM but really wakes up in 5000 - 8000 range

Has anyone tried putting a carbon wrap on an e93 roof to lose some weight? Works great on the sunroof cars. Probably spin tires at 2k rpms then.

Sounds like the OP really needs a Harrop for his E93. Cleared up the under 3K RPM problem for me.

There was a post a few years ago that made reference to the E9X's BIG V-8! I replied then....all 244 cubic inches of it! I think this tread is an indication of too high of expectations regarding the M3 V-8!

You have a 4000 lb vert with 260 wtq and an engine designed to be used mainly above 5K RPM. Just know that an Accord V6 or Camry V6 will smoke you up to higher speeds.

Just reread the first post. My vert does wheel chirp in MDM every time when I upshift on full throttle from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. Breaking traction is also easy if I'm already at high RPM so to do powerslides in tight corners I need to usually drop to 2nd or sometimes 1st gear. So as much as E93 is definitely heavy and less easy to slide around than E92 it's definitely still capable of doing so. So maybe there is actually something wrong with yours

Spinning tires is only a proven test for engine performance in muscle cars. In German cars the approved method I have seen, is the butt dyno. Maybe there is a new, standardized method I missed.

OP I know what you feeling, same was here 3yrs ago. I disappointed and weren't able to make test drive, imported the car from far. My solution was 4.44 Drexler GT4 differ, Eventuri plenum, stg2 tune and some breathable exhaust. Now i'm happy with this setup.
Replaced spark plugs, coil packs, fuel pressure sensor and pre-historic 050E software. Many have said newer 240E 241E soft gives noticeable performance.
4.44 makes appr 3000rpm @ 100km/h, old e36 m3 3.0 w/3.85 was also. Fuel consumption not 15% higher, maybe 5%
