Buttonwillow 13CW test & tune day 12.08.2012

Video from Buttonwillow open test & tune day this past Saturday.

First time out with NT01 and finally broke past 2:06. Did 2:03, but if I attack the lines at Riverside and Sweeper a bit better next time, 2:02 and even 2:01 should be attainable soon.

Nice driving! I see everyone is moving to the NT01's now. How did you like the feel of them?

Thanks man. Yeah, there were at least 3 of us there in our group with NT01. What can I say - much better than R-S3, but of course, you know that. But, with as many as 8 to 9 laps on some sessions, I was overheating the tires by running all of them as hot laps. They got greasy on latter laps and I was sliding around. Good times. What will you be running next? Did you get another set of NT01?

Yeah I'm going to stick with NT01's for now. I feel I got the more laps out of them then the RS3's and they are about the same price.

I checked on the R888 and the new Hankook TD's but they are a bit more $$

I saw some reports from miata guys that Hankook TD is about a second faster around Buttonwillow vs NT01 and 4 seconds faster than RS3. I am talking about 1:53 vs 1:54 vs 1:57 times. Not too many people run them though.

You California guys are so lucky, you get to tack all year round .

The white stuff is all over the place up here and it is a four month wait until the next track day .

As usual, nice driving OC .

Yeah because NT01s remain sticky 'til they cord, I hear. I'll probably run a couple more sets of NT01s too before I try something else like TD, etc.

Yeah, I'd expect nothing less. However, tire sizes might be an issue. TD, so far, does not come in 275/35/18; but, rather, 265/35/18, 285/30/18 & 295/30/18.

Anyhow, I know there are several seconds to shave off just by attacking certain sections with better lines. From this point on, (as I don't plan on any engine/exhaust tunes or mods nor aero) it's all up to me to get to that 2:00 mark - better lines, better driving, better strategy, etc.

You must. Be sure to pair'em up with capable suspension for maximum performance.

We indeed are lucky. I'd go stir-crazy if I had to hibernate for four months... I'll be sure to post track videos regularly for y'alls consumption as a substitute. Thanks CanAutM3.

I noticed that you are from Montreal area, I'm originally from Quebec city myself. It's funny you're saying you have to wait a few months to go back to the track. This last summer, I was actually waiting for September to go back to the track. The summer months here are just too damn hot. Most tracks around here are pretty much in the desert. I guess you can go in the summer but it's actually not that fun... your car overheat, you overheat and you can't get any good time around the track.

It's actually the good season right now in California until about June.

Yeah, I'm gonna try to either skip the summer months (naw, lulz, who am I kidding!) or track in a disciplined way by doing 2 hot laps per session only. In August, I've seen the NAV screen shut itself off, oil temp reach 280+, etc.
