Does anybody else find the M3 very jerky in 1st gear?

In first gear the car is very uncomfortable to drive, when cold if I’m not extremely gentle on the clutch/accelerator I kangaroo up the road, i spoke to BMW and they say its designed that way??

Yeah, You do have to finesse first gear, every car has quirks and this is one of ours if you have a 6MT

The DCT does the same thing too.

OP, are you using Sport or Sport+ Power? If you are, try setting it to normal until the car is warmed up. It should help quite a bit.

Why would you use the M-Mode anyhow on a cold car? Switch it back, enjoy the ease and save fuel!

You don't need to activate the M Button in order to change the Power setting though. You can set it to start in Sport by default (that's how mine is).

Yeah, then you just sort of have to go easier on the throttle. I find also that putting your foot to the floor helps avoid the bucking car-onco syndrome too. It's just that its not something I can really do when driving through the neighborhood in the morning.

one day, i decided to let the bucking get a little excessive.. man that was fun.
LOL.

The bucking normally would happen in 2nd. And that's livable, but in 1st.. ROFL.

would you happen to know how much it costs to retrofit this feature on?

yeah, even on the DCT, it tends to be a little jerky in the morning. just drive it out and it should be fine.

You are gonna love to drive GTR in the morning setting everything to extreme. Try it where nobody sees you though. It's quite embarrassing.

OP: Yeah same here, just throw it in 2nd or switch to D until the car warms up. It's pretty embarassing until you get used to it.

With first gear, you need to be really gentle on the throttle....it's either you drive slowly or you GUN it...there is not in-between.

it was real bad with my E46 SMG. My wife once asked me to show her what my car had...after I whipped her neck back and forth 3 or 4 times, she was screaming for me to stop.

The DCT hasn't been nearly as bad.

Mine doesn't do it. My car is seldom really cold though as it is garaged. I'm light and smooth on the throttle and stay below 3,000 RPM until the oil temp is at the mark between 180 & 210. It has M-DCT.

yes it is a bit jumpy in first when in M mode all power up, so have to be carefull in traffic etc, not to hit the car in front or a pedestrian, seriously

Practice being smoother with the throttle. You've got lots of hp and a low gear, so throttle movements should be really small and smooth. I drive down my parking structure in first and second and try not to touch the brakes, but keeping it very smooth all the way.

With a little work, sensitivity and concentration it'll smooth out. That's the way powerful cars should be.

I remember my daughters trying to drive my E Street Prepared Mustang 5.0. They'd buck and leap down the road after getting out of their Toyotas and Hondas.
