I think, triggering every cam onto the mentioned street was kinda arcade game for him. If he had missed one Im sure that he would turn back and try again

This entire story is gold! The lot that actually owns the car may be liable and doesn't want the car back, yet they have the tourists passport and he can't leave the country without it. That's come kind of a stand-off.

Sheikh Zayed Road is quite busy 24/7, doing the speeds mentioned in the article really is some kind of achievement ...
However, we were usually blazing through there as well at an easy 160-190km/h, but certainly tipped the brakes a few more times than this dude. |

Can't believe the 'we can't afford the tickets so it sits in impound' bit. Isn't 36k (even in pounds) just about what you pay for the yearly maintenance on a Huracan? Especially one being rented to tourists.

This is actually quite common for the royals and the rich locals to do there, but not so much for tourists. I was in Dubai last November, and every once in while you'd see a super car going crazy fast on the highway, weaving through lanes, obviously triggering every single speed camera racking up thousands in fees. And they have speed cameras EVERYWHERE in Dubai.
The trip also happened to coincide with the UAE National Holiday (kinda like our July 4), and what do they do on their national holiday? The Sheikh lowered the speed camera fines by 50%. So pretty much everyone and their mom was out there flooring it in their super car that weekend....amazing experience. The amount of money in the UAE has and how good its citizens have it is just mind blowing. Aside from not having any real freedom, course |

i was in Dubai earlier this year and rented a car to drive to Abu Dhabi and back. i can't remember if the route was Sheikh Zayed road all the way down, but i started on that road and traveled down it for quite awhile.
i can easily see a tourist triggering every single camera down that road because they're pretty well-hidden (understandably), no one at the agency or no one who helped me plan the trip said anything about speed cams, and we Americans are not used to being on the look out for them. i found out about them because i did some research on Dubai driving, so i was prepared. but not everyone will do that. i'm also sure that the cameras give you a little bit of leeway so you can speed a little bit without triggering them. i probably passed by at least some of them at 90 mph because i got so tired of slowing down every half mile, but i did not get charged for any tickets. |

Good lord. And I thought my $3,565.00 ticket I got in 2004 was a lot.

I was a SPC in the Army at the time stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. I had just returned home from Iraq about 9 months ago and bought a 2004 Mustang Cobra...the Terminator. Anyhow, I had just changed out the belt and wanted to test it out to make sure I didn't have any major belt slip. I drove kinda into the back woods and stopped on an empty road. It was 2000 at night and I figured there wouldn't be any cops on this road since I had never seen one. Dumped the clutch and took off. Come to find out there was a cop sitting in a hidden driveway about a mile or so down the road. When I passed him was doing about 155+mph. I stopped a little ways down, tuned around and did it again. This time he pulled out. When he stopped me he just laughed and said "goddamn son, you were movin". He arrested me and they issued me a half dozen reckless driving tickets, laying drag, excessive speed, and speeding in a school zone. There was a school on that road but school was out for the summer. Still dumb none the less. Spent the night in jail. Judge gave me the fine and told me the only reason I wasn't doing more time in jail and loosing my license was because I was set to deploy again to Iraq in a few months. Good times.

my favorite part of the story was going up to 155 mph just to make sure your belt wasn't slipping

This is stupid. Not because he racked up that much in tickets but because he did it while the rental agency held his passport, in Dubai no less. Holy shit. Also, why would you rent from a place that requires your passport in the first place? Keep that baby on you or you are just asking for it.
