Fair enough, mate! Perhaps you will be able to post the link once this magazin issue is past. For now they just mention the cover story:

"BMW M3 Coupé und Audi RS5: Zwei sportliche V8-Coupés mit über 400 PS im Duell."

ie, BMW M3 & RS 5: two sporty V8 coupes with over 400 hp in a duel.

Yeah, I think you're right, some folks have come back with those weights. Weren't those cars with minimal options (6MT, speedcloth, no nav, no PDC, no heated seats, no split/fold-down seats, no sat radio, etc.)?

I looked at the weight thread and Lucid came back with a 3,450 pound weight (tech, premium, coupe/cf), and yet an e90 fully loaded with sunroof and all options came in at 3,740.

I didn't spend a lot of time trying to cross-reference other threads and I couldn't get to the heart of the weight differences (Lucid did find a bunch of trunk weight to ditch, insulation, mobility, carpet, etc....so that probably accounts for maybe 50 or so pounds).

Yea, ok, maybe because its rarer you can say that its more exclusive, but in the end they all look the same. do you honestly think that any R8 driver (c**k, realy) is going to thing you can hang with them? No.

Will be interesting to see the real USD price over here when offered for the RS5. Kind of a shame, they had an opportunity to make the RS5 into something really special and they seem to have missed that mark by a mile.

Not an Audi hater (have owned them almost bought an RS4), but it sounds pretty unimpressive for what will be a steep premium over an E9x. A lot of show and not as much go.

Styling Q's on the Audi RS5 are OK. But the M3 is the M3. Once you drive one. you must have one.

Those are two of the most ridiculous reasons (first two of course) to buy a car.

No, I think south just likes it that someone was (a) observant and (b) being unbiased in noting a categorywhere the rs5 outshone the m3.

First of all, I made the RS5 weigh even more than it did. Actually, it's 1,816 kg or 4,004 lbs. Sorry for that!

Sure, they'll probably have that story online in some weeks.

Not so fast. I first wrote "It's not so much a surprise that the M3 beat the RS5 in all performance categories". It was only a matter of time until someone pointed out that the RS5 actually was better in one category, so my statement of the M3 beating the RS5 in all performance categories was wrong. I accept your apology.

Best regards,
south

Where's the reply from the Simon Cowell of this forum? Too busy crying over today's England vs Algeria result

He replied with a bunch of excuses in my last post claiming "Fail" for the RS5 and I decided not to reply back to be respectful of this forum.

With this result and the less than stellar UK reviews, it is safe to say Audi did not better the M3 despite the additional money and time.

I forget which publication did it (road & track?), but the M3 destroyed the Cayman S and Carrera S on the track.

Price for overall performance in the sporty luxury car segment would dictate the M3 the superior buy across the 3 big german mfgs.

/thread

If you buy a sports car like a C63 AMG, M3, or RS5 to just look good on the road, you're a douche anyway. Just buy a 7er instead.

DAMN!!!....Audi must be pissed!!!
they developed the RS5 to be the M3 killer....and had the M3 for 3 years to disect....3 years to build an M3 killer....oh man...this is what you call EPIC FAIL!!!
Footie: Talk to your people at Audi and tell them to spend less time chasing BMW and to focus on what they do best...work on their weaknesses....listen to their customers....spend some time doing customer surveys.....how to reduce weight...perhaps develop a RWD car.....quit spending so much time chasing BMW or trying to beat BMW...it's never going to happen!

isnt the 1 series an M3 killer? isnt that kinda bad? the M3 should be right under the M5 in speed and power not M5, 1 series then the M3. i think that right there is an Epic Fail. Wait till the M1/1M comes out then the M3 will be just as slow as an audi

especially with such a massive price difference. M3 clearly takes the cake, hands down.

just read the article today in the Sport Auto.
tester/author was Anja Wassertheurer. She is a very fast driver - participating also at the 24h at Nürburgring.

I was totally shocked/surprised by this article.
I expected the RS5 to take a slight win over M3. But it was completely the other way round.
There was not ONE point where the RS5 could shine.
RS5: Heavy as hell, very bad steering
High speed driving comfort on the Autobahn was way better in the M3 with the EDC
Fuel consumption lower with M3
DCT/Motor characteristic of M3 better
Handling (slalom) M3 much faster
Hockenheim race track: M3 1,1s faster
....

Frankly speaking and reading a bit between the lines: It was a slating review by the sport auto magazine. And just for your info. Sport Auto is the benchmark of all german car magazines for sport car enthusiasts.
