lol, what a car enthusiast huh

F yahoo indeed, most 1s you see driving are better looking than the greater bit of other brands passing along. Specially with good gear on em. But every car does have ugly versions of it driving around too

A TRUE BMW!
If you took the "ooh such an ugly duckling" off, you'd equal a 335.

Save the little car crap for the people at work who have no idea that the 135 only weighs 150lbs less than a 335, mkay?

What, a thread filled with BMW owners who actually believe they know what's ugly and what's not?

LOL @ the two sides of this debate.

On one hand you have the people who went through the process of searching, learning, and buying their 135i. Some are getting defensive, but that's to be expected. The car is a bit "porky" or "stubby" depending on what angle you look at it from. Just like every car, it has its good and bad sides. I'm also personally not a fan of the convertibles, but that's my opinion.

On the other hand you've got the typical 3 series collar popper who wants to justify that their car is the cow's tits. Unfortunately the 3 is just the rental car of BMW's lineup and much too bland for my personal taste. That's not to say that there aren't some GORGEOUS 3's, but from the factory...... and don't get me started on the sedans....

If everyone had the same taste in cars, think of how mundane the automotive industry would be...

i personally, find the little performance gains that are found in the 135 when compared to the 335 moot. as an artist, i care a lot about aesthetics and the 1 series simply isn't pleasing to the eyes. neither was the m coupe ('06 m coupes are much nicer looking).

but overall... bmw has had 2 styling miscues in how many years???? they've done a pretty decent job

First off, I will be the first to agree with you that the 335i is a much nicer car and far more attractive. That said, I had an e46 and moving the 1 you can definitely feel the compactness of the car when driving around. Yes, it is a portly thing, but it is still quite a bit smaller than the 3 which makes it, on the whole, much easier to drive. And, imho, until the e46 coupe, the ugly duckling part was an essential component of the BMW formula.

The 3 has a bit less [cheap] plastic in the dash and panels. Aside from that, what's much nicer? My 1 and 3 are both fully loaded and the plastics are the only discerning difference in quality. If I really wanted to nitpick, maybe the doors feel more solid when shutting them on the 3. But that's probably because the 3 sedan has the frame around the window. On the plus side, the 1 gets the large 6-piston calipers.

I can see the argument that the 1 is the ugliest BMW in their lineup right now (which is probably why it made the list in the first place), but I can name at least 20-30 current production cars on the market that look a lot worse. The Mitsubishi Evo should have been on that list as well, for example.

materials wise yea, there are not many differences but just on the whole the 3 gives a more grownup, refined feel, that's more what I meant, but that's also why I love the 1, it's a "back to basics" BMW

The 1er is fugly with it's sow's belly and stubby, surprised-deer-looking nose.

That being said, I don't think my E90 is any better looking. Both cars already have a wealth of mods available to fix the ugliness though.

I actually thought the E30 was gorgeous, then came the E36 and yeah...

You know what. At the end of the day, you bought the car not me, so thats all that matters. Everyone has their opinions, but if you're happy who cares.

Personally, I really like the rear of the 135, but the front has always been the problem.

1 series is easily the ugliest car BMW has ever put on the market. As the above poster said, the rear isn't too bad really, but for me the front fascia/headlights and sideskirts of the car are horrendous. To those who like the look, great, but it sure is a "Beauty and the Beast" type car to me.

I still think the ugliest current BMW is the E93 - with the roof up they look truly horrible.

And to my eyes the ugliest current sports car is the RX8. 1 series look 10 times better.
