It was a R205 car (not available here and much better than the U.S Spec car) combined with a Spec C car with even more modifications put on seen here

The thing with the Japanese cars is they always set the target at the European's. Instead I think they should look into a different segment they do better. Such as a 0.6 litre sushi van that flashes lots of neon bulbs.

Yep, because the suck at performance cars...like the GT-R, Supra, LXF, NSX, the Z series cars, IS-F, WRX, Evo, etc...

I had a GR STi before my E46 M3.. and even the E46 was quicker. AWD has its advantages but really, there isn't much to speak of there. A different turbo would make a VERY significant difference. In the case of that modded vehicle, the turbo and tune was arguably a much better setup.. and that's a weak point on the stock car. It runs out of energy very soon, with very peaky and short lived power delivery.

Even during the video you can tell that car is nowhere near the same vehicle. It sounds entirely different. The ring car also had R-comps I believe, too.

Trust me, in no way will an STi ever compete with an E9x M3 unless it is significantly modded, sacrificing reliability.

Depends on what you mean by significantly modified. A few grand into an STI or Evo will realize some significant performance gains with the stock turbo.

Just like the M3 doesn't compare to the a 911 an STI doesn't compare to an M3, it doesn't mean one won't beat it around a track or be faster. I mean who keeps an STI stock when you can get 40-50hp and 70-80 tq for a couple grand and change?

A corvette is faster but to me doesn't compare either, just a different flavor of vehicle.

i never modded my old Evo 8. I wanted to keep the drivability.
Not every person who buys a high performance car will mod it to beat the next level up. So impressive, yes, that a mildly modified STi with a race car driver will beat a stock M3. I always say, so what, what's you're point? My modded Ford Fiesta puts out 800hp can beat a Ferrari.

The new STI's are garbage. Anything after '07 sucks. I had an 04 and an 06 and both were great cars. Both could and did embarrass M3's and Porsches on the track, but they will never ever be anywhere as complete a car as the M3 is.

Most of us will never drive the 'ring. To drive in So Cal, I'd take the M3.

On the track, I like the STI because it's cheaper to fix, the car gets beat to crap and you can make it go just as fast with a flash and those tires. It's like finger nails on a chalk board taking a nice sedan like the M3 and pitting up the paint, frying the brakes, killing the tires... but I'm ok doing that to an Evo or STI, especially one of the older high mileage ones that you can buy for $15K now.

On track I could not stand the STI. Yes, it was fast (I tracked it probably 8-12 times), but SO boring. AWD and crappy weight distribution and not enough camber.

Much rather drive a cheaper RWD vehicle. E36 M3, S2000 (awesome car), Miata, Elise, Boxster (Cayman).

I agree the new STI is a piece of crap. I owned a 08 and I blew the #4 piston ring after 7000 miles. I didnt abuse the car and I have owned many manual cars, so I know what I'm doing. Subaru's stance on customer support is terrible - treated me like some punk kid and blindly declined my claim and it was out of pocket. I am so glad I'm rid of that car, and I'll NEVER buy another one.

I bet after that day of running around the ring that car was toast.

You can not in any way compare any subaru to our M3. PERIOD.

you must mean your modded STi can be stock E46 M3 and stock and base 911 and Cayman. No way your stock STi will beat a E9X M3, stock 911S or Cayman S.

You can not in any way compare any subaru to our M3. PERIOD.

And I have 50k miles on mine with a stage 1 tune and it's been perfect. SOA has to prove you abused the car so if you had no mods and cracked your ringland you would have been covered. I've seen stage 2 cars covered as well.

Should it happen? No but take a look at some issues the new AMG engines are having or the 4.2 from Audi or BMW's HPFP. Sometimes you get a lemon, I don't blame you and would probably feel the same if it had happened to me but I'm guessing you car was not stock...at all.
