Hope that the M-GmbH decides to take this wonderful engine in the future F3x M3.

It's painful to watch, ya know? The poor S65 gets all this attention and good fortune, but the guy has no idea he's about to get taken out back and put down. Cruel, this.

Oops - 1M has the older N54. But yeah, that one took the award in the past too, before the N55 came onto the scene.

It really is awful.....BMW should have found a way to keep her, if not in the base ///M3 at least in some higher end CSL. It would allow them to bring a CSL to this country more easily as it would have an DOT approved engine, as they could bump her to 450bhp and rework things to get a bit more torque. Wish they would go the route of Porsche and offer both FI & NA engines.....

God I love this engine........

Cheers,

it really is a shame they don't try to squeeze some more efficiency out of it and make it work for the next generation. I know it would take a huge redesign, but there are things like direct injection that could be added for more power and better efficiency. their experience with direct injection hasn't been so great - i.e. HPFP issues - but they could figure it out.

I also laughed when I read that Fiat won an award. reminded me of the old acronym Fix It Again, Tony. I'm sure their quality has since improved.

There is some good hope that the S65 in modified form could make its way in the new M3 generation!

That, and let's be honest - it appears that quality isn't one of their most important criteria here. If it were, the N54 never would have made the cut in the past. Even the N55 still has HPFP issues. I honestly doubt that any Fiat engine in recent history is as unreliable as either of those two.

Why cant BMW just throw some turbos or a SC on the S65 for the new M3? Is that too much to ask for!

I'm gonn keep my S65+DCT forever and just swap them into a new and more modern body shell every fews years. I lie, but actually, as I think on that, that would be amazing.

So sad, yet so true......I had two e92s with the N54, the first one was built in June '06, and was one of the first failures. Took them 2 months to get the replacement parts in because they got caught offguard. I got a loaner though and a collateral exchange, so it worked out great. The second one was pretty much flawless for 60k. Got to say that when it works, that N54 was a fenominal engine as far as power vs. efficiency.

Boy oh boy are we on the same page......I don't want to ever give this engine up, but I also drive 15k a year, and love every moment, at some point I will have to garage queen her or something...

Cheers,
