Oops, I ran it over 6500 RPM a couple of times today (second day only)

Second day I've had the car and I can't seem to keep it down. They were very short bursts, but man, it wants to get up their fast.

Your confession has been heard. Say "8400 RPM S65B40 V8-powered E93 M3" 100 times, and ye shall be forgiven.

(Fail to do so, and your engine will be scattered onto the roadway without warning and at the least convenient time imagineable!)

Haha...I had the same problem. Since I couldnt seem to help myself...I finally just put it in D3 and left it till the break in was over.

Leave it in “D” mode like me, and you won’t have to worry about it!

I'll take it for $10,000. I mean, you won't be able to sell it for anything close to this figure. M3 RPM readings get registered via satellite on the website M3RPMabuse.com and everyone will know.
Kidding, you're fine. Staying within the 5500 RPM is just a recommendation not a law. If passing it briefly would hurt the car they would've electronically limited the tach to 5500 as it happens every morning we turn our engines on. Right?
You're good

honestly...no worries... I regret not ripping on it in Germany right after I got it. It will survive, it's a great engine.

I wouldn't, and I didn't. Just at least wait till you have close to 1000 miles. Also, I'd care less about the RPMs then how you get there... I hope not WOT.. Be nice to your remarkable engine.

Forget about it. It doesn't mean shit and won't make a difference. Redline it all the way. 1 out of 1000 of us here will keep this car long enough to have that 1 out of 1,000,000 chance of engine failure due to improper brake-in procedure to have any affect whatsoever. The entire brake-in concept is a joke, unless you are willing to change oil every 100 miles for 2 months, it makes no difference (redlining it constantly and changing oil very frequently for 2,000 miles is the proper way of breaking-in the engine. The 1200 mile service is just "some" way of realistic break-in).

FYI - break in is not just for engine

Actually I've read that some have had issues with oil consumption. I've begun to wonder if a harder break in will reduce oil consumption. Audi owners have done this with success on the new S4. I have not checked the threads about oil consumption and if any different habits can reduce it.
