We were probably about 15 in the group that day, but minus the guy who blew his brand new C7 Z06 motor, so that's 13 guys and one gal. She was driving a modded subaru brz, and no, it didn't blow the motor.
The point is that women can drive a car hard. But 90% of the time it's a male thing.

the listing gives a clue
"1 owner no accidents adult woman driver lived in wine country and worked in orange county"

If she lived in Napa county and worked in Orange County that is 400-450 miles commute one way, 800 miles round trip. Probably bought the car with those big weekend commutes in mind. Over 7 years it computes to ~ 268,800 ! (assuming 48 work weeks / year).

Every week this engine saw two 5-7 hours of pure highway commutes.
This would have perfectly guaranteed that all ethanol dilution in the oil got burned away. Some people might not agree with where i am going with this but you cannot take that away: engine ran 268k miles with no fuel dilution of the oil by virtue of how it was used.

If you do short trips, sit in traffic and do not run the car for long duration bouts it will accumulate substantial fuel (+ethanol) in the oil between oil changes. That is not debatable. (No, Blackstone told me they cannot detect ethanol directly in the oil if you wondered)

This by itself does not prove anything. Highway miles are the best miles for any car. But added to other research it supports my RB Fail theory.

In all honesty, no one is going to commute 400-450 miles a day for work. No one. Let alone, buying a V8 to do so.

I commute 180 miles per day - probably put 50k miles a year on my cars.

Interesting - by that standard my car is golden, and it is so far - 118k miles, 21 track days. 180 miles per day, refill on Chevron gas every day. Track gas is 91/101 mix.

No thanks on the commute but I am interested in your favorite podcasts to help pass the time when I do have a long drive.

Once a week or so I have to do 200-240 miles in a car (not mine) in a day. I catch up on the old episodes of my podcasts ("The Truth About Money", "Freakanomics", and the "The 2+2 Pokercast") during those days.

Back on topic, no doubt getting up to operating temps (oil temp ~210 deg F) helps get rid of fuel dilution and moisture issues for the oil. One of the problems of my E46M3 w/the C&R radiator and the then working C&R oil cooler (which has since cracked and been denied warranty by C&R after ~14k miles, but that's a different thread), is that it takes a lot to get the oil up to temp in the winter months. Have to rev it like I'm on track in the winter to get to normal oil temps (middle of the E46M3 gauge), otherwise it will sit at 1/3 of the range (on the low end).

Serious props. When commuting to SJSU towards the end of grad school, I could barely do that commute from SF... lol.

Yes, twice per week not everyday. Doing that 450 miles weekend commute from '08 to '15 gives close to her odometer value.

I wish I listened to podcasts! Just been listening to music for the past 8 or so years I've done this commute. Seems like such a colossal waste of time not to learn something now that I look back at it. :/ it's part of the de-stressing process coming home from work I guess. Perhaps I should check out the ones you've suggested!

I like to drive the M3 for the commute because well, it's too fun not to, even for a "boring" highway cruise. I'm not driving like a maniac either, the car just makes me feel special.

Does this ethanol oil degradation help explain why some garage queens seem to be grenading? If that fuel is just sitting in the car for long periods of time, or in the oil... I always feel antsy when I haven't driven the car in a week, and if I'm honest, it always sounds like crap when I first start it up after a long wait like that.

Maybe it's just my imagination but the car feels grumpy towards me when I neglect to driver her often enough

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History is what I listen to when I'm driving up to the Bay Area from San Diego. Episode 1 of Blueprint for Armageddon should grab your attention and make a podcast addict out of you.

Only if that oil in the crankcase is dirty, tired and nasty !
As opposed to clean and fresh

It's not about oil being dirty but loosing its lubricity properties. E10 dilution in the oil will do, and not driving the car on a couple of hours of continuous drives weekly. After the engine oil is warm it takes hours to evaporate all the ethanol dilution that can accumulate in the oil. It's not just about getting oil to temp.

translate and read..
"E10 harms engine oil"
