Rear tire wear and TPS
We've had several BMW's and they've all eaten rear tires at about twice the rate as fronts at the OEM designated. They all wear right down the middle, which is a classic symptom of over-inflation. Since we went to a square setup on my wife's car I still see the same pattern. I've lowered the rear tire pressure several pounds to compensate, but that triggers the TPS warning that stays on all the time.
1. What is the range of acceptability for the TPMS system? 2. Is there any way to adjust those ranges? Thanks! |

Sounds like you may want to do away with the TPMS system and code it out of the car.

I believe the TPMS triggers the light once the PSI drops to 25% (or more) below the suggested PSI… which I believe is 36 PSI (therefore anything below 27 PSI would trigger light).
I don't believe that threshold is easily adjustable, but if it's possible amrazM is the one who would know. |

What are your tire pressures? Honestly have not had this issue to the extent that it's made we consider the above posts. These cars eat thru tires, it's part of the fun!

I don’t recall what the sticker says for fronts (32,34?), but for the original rear 265/x/19’s it was 38psi. I switched to to a square setup of 275/30/18’s on 18x9.5’s and started at 38. I already see premature wear on the backs and dropped them to 36 front and 34 rear.
