So parts needed will be
1 Drei Bond 07589062376
1 Engine Valve Cover Gasket BMW-11127838271
1 Engine Valve Cover Gasket BMW-11127838272
8 Spark Plug Tube BMW-11127835170

2 oil separator seal BMW-11157838369

I searched a couple resellers. Seems FCP Euro would be the way to go since they offer lifetime warranty and their prices are not far off from the competitors

FCP Euro:

FYI, I just bought this whole set via FCPEUro and it came out to be ~$550. Maybe the Black Friday pricing is helping?

Really good stuff and thanks for posting this. Not sure if you're around on the forums. Was wondering if you also replaced the cam shaft sensors on each side.

Hey, thank you! I did not replace them myself but saw a post where someone did and the car ran better. Can't really remember the issue. I think it was buried in the thread "what did you do to your M3 today"

Thank you.

Appreciate this thread so much. I'm refreshing a 100k mile e90 and thinking I will go ahead and pull the trigger on this job. Was wondering your thoughts on replacing the Cam sensors while you're in there. Seems like a good idea - though I don't hear others doing it and no reports of failures.

I did via FCP, but probably unnecessary at my low mileage. I wanted a fresh update of all the components on 14 year old track car. This is a pretty casual DIY given your capabilities with the SC install, uninstall, install… 😂 One of the more enjoyable projects once the heavy ass Harrop plenum is removed.

TQ numbers for these bolts are 6NM not 10NM as I have seen in many threads. You do not want to over torque these at all. Also start from the middle and work your way to the ends when torqueing the bolts. This way you don't run the risk of an improperly seated cover and would expose you to possible leaks down the line.

Once secure this is s a good time to replace your spark plugs. This also has a Torque figure of 23 inch lbs.

Once you got everything all tightened up you are then ready to start connecting everything back up.

This was a good time to also replace the fuel breather that sits toward the back under the plenum.

Then you would repeat this same process on the other side. The only difficult thing was working with the coolant reservoir as it seemed it was always in the way.

The total job took about 4 hours and was pretty straight forward. Looks a 1000x better and will be much more durable than the stock finish and will last years to come.

Hope this helps someone out there that is looking to do this job. It is not difficult at all but it is costly when you add up all the parts to do this job.

Ill come back and provide a parts list as best as I can later.

"Once secure this is s a good time to replace your spark plugs. This also has a Torque figure of 23 inch lbs."

That was preceding the 6Nm call out. Figured it was a typo is all.

You can use but it's probably not a good idea depending on the mileage.

Thank you fixed it.

Spark plugs are 23lbs while the valve cover screws are 6nm.

Thanks OP.
How much do you charge for to refinish a set of covers?
.

Should it be 12 x 11417526315? 4 for the cam sensors and 8 for the oil separators?

Also, 2 oil separator seal BMW-11157838369 is duplicated by 2 each Crank Case Vent Seal 11157838369. Caused some confusion for me when I was adding these items to the cart and wound up with 4 x 11157838369 Crank Case Vent Seal

Yes that is correct. I bought the full lot and wound up with 2 extra 11157838369 o-rings after the job.

I ordered Drei Bond through FCP Euro but they sent me BMW Loctite 5970 instead. It also seems to be a RTV sealant. What's the difference between this and Drei Bond and can I use this instead?

I have the same thought here.

I checked realoem and it should be:
x12 11417526315 torx screws (4 for each oil separator = total of 8, 1 for each camshaft position sensor = total of 4)

And only x2 instead of x4 for the bigger oil separator seal 11157838369

Thanks to everyone who contributed!
The price has gone up a LOT at FCP. It's $665 with 12 Torx screws BMW-11417526315
as recommended above.

If it's ok to re-use the screws, I'd just reuse my old ones. Are they really one and done? We're not talking rod bearings here.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

BMW-11417526315 is the cam sensor bolt. You only need 4, not 12.

Not recommended to re-use the valve cover bolts. They have a rubber grommet that hardens with age and can leak oil.
