INDIVIDUAL M3 MISTAKE UNICORN ON B a T

Just appeared on bring a trailer tonight. Bidding took off immediately and may set a record.

A forum member ordered an individual special order car in 2013 and planned European delivery. When he picked the car up in Munich it was the wrong color. Big mess, read the thread:
https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=842479

A replacement car took eight weeks but evidentially the OP got his special car.

The rejected first M3, the mistake car, was shipped to and sold by a different Calif dealer. The mistake color makes this a bit of a unicorn and shows up on B a T with only 21,000 miles.

This will be a fun auction to watch.

Agree.

People commenting on BAT saying the price is absurd for an individual color. But I can see it going north of 80-100.

The Atlantis that sold a year ago was 14k miles and 6MT as well, went for 66k. With the Atlantic infamy, you aren't paying extra for the color, it's for the story.

Also, some guy on there bidding appears to have more money than sense and is literally overbidding on each bid that is posted. Seems like a great way to spend more money than necessary to get a car. But this is also clearly going to drive that auction higher.

Atlanti"c" blue and Atlanti"s" are two completely different colors. The one that sold in 2019 was Atlantis (more deep blue turquoise) and was the "fix" BMW produced for the botched euro delivery car that was supposed to be Atlantis but was painted Atlantic.

Atlantic is a much lighter blue without as much turquoise.

Atlantic blue, better defined in this picture, I feel the pics on BAT are using filters/lighting to make it look more exciting than it is.

I agree those photos are stunning. I think taking them at sunset helped a lot too. A lot of golden sheen and the extensive shadows help a lot with that car.

Atlantic is such an awful color in person. Lol

+1

Agreed. As unicorn as this is, Atlantic is one of my least favorite blue hues. It's a bit too..."soft"

I was offered the car and declined(he got it for about 40k) in October of last year. Here are some normal pics of the color which looks like a Camry. Also large dent in the rear quarter panel area, wonder how he fixed it.

Buy car, touch it up, resell for profit.

If he got it for $40k, put $5k+ in for respraying, PDR, tires and a good detail and can turn a $20K+ profit more power to him. He obviously put the effort in and listen people like a story.

Seeing the pics above with the front plate drilled looking sad as shit in what looks like an auction yard, no wonder someone passed at $40k.

A new comment in the BaT dialog has put light on the damaged rear quarter panel. It will be interesting to see the seller's response.

I have no problem with capitalism. I do however have a problem with the seller not being upfront about the respray. that should have been made clear in the auction listing. I personally would not buy a modern collectible car with paintwork to that extent. i'm sure the hood was resprayed and the quarter panels would have had to be reblended. Especially so with a color like that.

The damage doesn't look that severe. It was likely just PDR'd. The bumper resprayed. Not a huge deal. You can find blemishes in the photos and it looks like it went through auction.

However, the lack of disclosure from the seller is troubling. Combine this with the seller having to add other pictures because the original pictures did not accurately represent the paint color and you have yourself some reasons to be skeptical.

When I'm spending $$ to buy a fun car I am always qualifying the seller as well as the car.

It's not a huge deal on 99% of cars, but if you're trying to get $60k+ for a 1/1 Individual Car, the paint work certainly has a jab at the long term value.

Nothing wrong with the car and if the buyer likes the color then I'm sure they'll be pleased, but obviously color matching on a difficult metallic color can be a reason for concern for anyone who's ever bought a poorly matched car. It looks great in the pictures, but again those have clearly been edited for drama more than uniformity or clarity.

Now the seller has commented that the front and rear bumpers and the hood have been re-sprayed for cosmetic reasons. And blames the withholding of details on BaT. If this is true, with those strong initial bids, BaT should void this auction and start over with correct description and more honest photos.

So this little unicorn mistake M3 continues to cause seller's heartburn.

If it weren't for you posting these pictures no one would have ever learned of the paint work. BAT has lost major credibility. How could you have confidence to buy a BAT car after this ?

Not sure this ultimately matters. Caveat emptor applies regardless of the auction house.

Even brand new cars are allowed to be sold as new if the dealer repairs damage in transit and it doesn't have to be disclosed.

The paint work looks good and if this guy didn't do the work himself nobody would've known if it weren't for internet detectives. I'm sure 50% of the cars on BaT have some back story or bodywork that isn't being disclosed. I bought my car and found dog hair under the seats before discovering the PO had a pet.

If someone really wants a not-quite silver stone E92 with very low miles it's a unique car.
