The S65 block (crank/case/bedplate) is more than capable of withstanding at least 800hp on its own. The OE rods would fold under the pressure though. A set of H beam rods, with the proper bearings and pistons, and it will take whatever you feed it all day. It is EASILY one of the most insanely engineered bottom ends on the planet. Minimal jacketing in the case, No main caps, but a solid girdled/sealed bedplate, and (3x) torque to yield steel bolts. It could hold a nuke if it needed to. The 414hp that it handles on the daily is nothing... that figure is like God pushing a radio-flyer! No effort

I guess I do not really see how this would make a nice reliable and useable power curve that would really showcase the benefits of a turbo. With one large turbo you introduce a major dillemma if you want to maintain the 8400 rpm redline-you either will have absolutely no improvement or boost in the low range which I think would defeat the purpose of this, or if you do tune the
turbo for good low end torque, it will run out of steam by 7k (just like a 335) then will either be anemic or useless above 7k and will defeat the purpose of doing this on an m3. The only benefit of using the s65 platform to turbo would be if you devise a way to use the entire rpm range from 3k-8400k which would require atleast 2 turbos IMO. Otherwise there are better engines to slap a turbo on IMO and will end up being nothing more than a turbo v8 with no special character. In this case a supercharger might as well be used. So aside from perhaps more efficiency, a large single turbo application does not suit this engine if you want to maitain its character |

I wonder how come that most current M3 owners are shivering when they hear the next M3 gen will have forced induction, but everyone here is cheering when a crazy tuner is trying to bolt a turbo on the current gen NA M3 ?

You guys do understand how much easier it is to do this on a RHD vehicle compared to a LHD vehicle right? The ideal layout for a turbo application for this specific model is on a RHD car being that the steering linkage isn't in the way, unlike the U.S. cars.
For this reason, companies such as HPF, aren't interested as its a complete headache and would require an intense amount of custom fabrication to the actual car that the majority of you guys wouldn't be comfortable doing nor paying for.

I think they are excited because you still get to keep a high reving v8 which redlines in the 8g's instead of the newer v8 which do in 7g's... best of both worlds tons of power n torque down low while still revving up high in space lol.......Well at least thats why i am excited.

This was a great read... whether they succeed or not its always interesting to see people push the limits. While the car may be ruined when complete, by the looks and sounds of it they have the money to burn. Good luck and cant wait to see more.

Honestly I would never throw a turbo on my S65. Coming from the N54 world, turbos are just not my thing at all. This will be interesting if anything actually materializes out of this though, but it definitely isn't for me.
