OE Hyper Silver 359Ms

While I love(d) the gunmetal wheels, I'd been itching for a change. The only aftermarket wheel that gives the ZCPs a run for their money IMO is the BBS RIA, which doesn't clear the Brembo 380s. I had scoured the classifieds for original Hyper Silver 359Ms for a while but there just weren't any clean sets without tires that worked out. I finally caved and just ordered a new set. No doubt you can have your pickings of aftermarket wheels for the same price after factoring in sales tax and shipping, but I just love the look of this wheel (and the fact that it'll always be readily replaceable versus, say, an RKP-spec BBS FI 18''). Factoring in what I sold the gunmetals for, the difference was equal to having the gunmetal set professionally refinished, which made the new set a no-brainer.

The wheels were direct-shipped to VT Motorworks for mounting and road force balancing, and I showed up a little early to coat them (I used Griot's ceramic wax). I already dread cleaning brake dust, ugh. But that Hyper Silver sure does pop!

They're multiplying! derbo in for an alignment.

inviktus59 now rocking the gunmetal 359Ms, they look great on his JB! @Derbo's new Titan7s looking great too.

I took the opportunity to give the calipers a wipe down and inspect the [Dinan/TRW] control arms and [Fall-Line] DCT pan, both of which were just installed. Of course I forgot to snap a pic with the DCT cover dropped, but if you squint and look reallllllly closely then you can see the chunky cooling fins and it's snug fitment under the cover. Ha.

BMW -442 GTS DCT Software

@Derbo also flashed my DCT with the -442 BMW GTS software (aka "updated GTS" or "CRT"). I had another GTS flash on before which was totally fine, but I was curious to compare the differences given some other detailed comparisons on here, and this was simple for the wizard dba derbo. I'll report back with thoughts after more time, but for now everything feels, goes, and looks great. If you have DCT and do not have any GTS or Euro software, do this yesterday!

I think the brighter wheels help on a white car. My titan7 are looking dark now lol

Looks great. OEM ZCPs really are the best looking wheel for this car (even if gunmetal on a white, silver or red E9X looks great too).

Are you running stock tire sizes?

^ Thanks, fellas!

Tires are Michelin PS4s in 255/275, and spacers are Bimmerworld 10F/5R.

I paid $2600 for the wheels all-in. If someone has flexibility to wait for something like Black Friday, or they are local to a good vendor and can save on shipping, then they can be found for ~$2400. Any online vendor that looks like they are selling them for <$2500 with tax/shipping is full of sh*t, trust me (looking at you, BMWPartsLink.com).

[Euro visors ftw!]

New 359Ms look great - good move just buying a new set.

I recently bought a new set as well. Lots of used sets out there but most people want silly $ for them all rashed up with crappy tires

Seriously...$2k for rashed up wheels and general exxclaim or some federal rubber? Come on mannnn!

Seriously thinking of just getting some 359's. Nothing looks as good on these cars. Anyone track w/ their 359's?

I've tracked three times with my 359s. No issues.

It's funny, this E90 M3 still looks modern and contemporary in terms of styling. And I love my Hyper Silver 359's - there really is no other wheel that looks better on the M3!

Looking at your E90 M3 it is just so clean and looks perfect -

Cheers,
Merlin

The 359Ms aren't an ideal track wheel, but they will do the job just fine for someone who wants to go occasionally and only has one set of wheels/tires. They are strong, relatively affordable, and readily replaceable. Someone with a dedicated set would surely get some lighter 18s.

[1/2] My family is out of town so with the world shut down I've spent my long weekend exploring some pretty roads around the Bay Area. On Thursday morning I headed to Mt. Tamalpais and explored around the parks (Panoramic Highway), up the coast on Shoreline Highway (US 1) past Stinson Beach and Pt. Reyes, and up around Tomales Bay. On the way back I stopped by the Marin Headlands for some familiar backdrops.
Closer to Mt. Tam, Muir Woods, and the Headlands, the scenery is breathtaking but the roads aren't a quick pace. North of Stinson Beach things start opening up and you can stretch legs while also enjoying a view.
My photos are crap like usual (and my upload method sure doesn't help) but I had a good time.

[2/2] Then on Friday morning I headed north to wine county, where I took Highway 128 from Rutherford in Napa Valley east to Winters and back. This was a scenic route along Lake Berryessa but the fires earlier this summer have decimated much of the area. It's still pretty in parts, and the road is in great shape the whole way, but it is kinda barren for stretches. Nevertheless, it was great fun and a nicer pace than yesterday, also saw a pair of E92Ms and a GT3 Touring out sharing in the fun.

Beautiful! I might have missed it but are you running standard size tires or did you upsize to 255/275?

Thanks! It has 255/275 PS4s with 10/5mm spacers.

The first post is usually up to date and has most of the details. This is just a PSA, by all means ask away.

Awesome E90 and a fellow local. Curious if the 10/5 spacer combo is specified to the E90 chassis as 15/12 seems to be the norm for the 92.

I’m also out in the Bay Area and those are some of my favorite roads to drive on. Great shots and beautifully spec’d E90 👌🏼 How much of an impact did the BBK have on the overall brake feel and performance stopping power on those roads? I love my e90 but the brakes I feel are probably it’s overall weakest link.

Actually I reckon the sedans have a little more room in the rear fenders, so in theory they can get away with slightly more aggressive (rear) spacers. That said, I wasn't looking to push any envelopes. My thinking was (1) 15/12 is the norm, but I added camber plates which visually sink the front wheels even more, so a little more than 3mm stagger F/R would be better, and (2) I run oversized 255/275 tires, half the additional width of which (5mm) is added to the outside. So nothing terribly scientific, but that's how 15/12 became 15/10 which ultimately became 10/5. I could surely fit wider spacers (especially in the front) without rubbing, but I have no desire to. I like the subtle/oem but "full" look and they already send enough sh!t up the side of the car.
Also worth noting that the spacers seat perfectly flush on the wheels and the hub, and with the new monoballs I am 100% vibration-free at all speeds.

To be frank, good pads/fluid (and tires) are probably adequate for a decent/fun yet reasonable pace on these roads. The Brembos are overkill on any public road, but no doubt they feel fantastic (linear, firm, balanced, consistent) and tremendously increase confidence. Which is exactly why I got and love 'em (plus they look sweet)!
