Trail brake.com has a very accurate and internal or external cap option. Note it’s a CAN signal and thus intended to feed data to a logger. Thus no display. I have it as do others and it’s super reliable.

Do you have this integrated into an Aim product? Was looking into this, the Solo2DL is pretty capable with the CAN expansion hub.

I have it into MXS as the secondary CAN. I don’t believe the Solo can do it, but could be wrong.

You can then do some fun shit in RS3 building tire profiles. Still messing around, but for example looking at Gsum relative to pressure and temp. Set alarms on the dash to “green light” tires are up to pressure or temp, or overheating.

Here’s an example of a profile views I was playing with. GSUM and Cumulative Gs through lap. Idk?

I think because the tire temps change so much between corners, your profile can be useful when it is analyzing a specific corner and looking at the same corner as the session progress.

Once analysing a whole track there are too many varialbes. Also, in particualr, including straights in the analysis may skew results.

Good work on buidling the profile.

The trailbrake TPMS record temp changes too slow to know exaclty what happens at the surface of the tire during a specific point in the turn. So it is difficult to draw conclusion based on a slow measuring device that indirectly measure the contact patch temp.

Regardless of my comment above, I do view the TPMS very helpful. I have programmed an alarm to show blue light when the tires are too cold and start pushing when the blue light goes off. I also programmed a red alarm to go off when my tires exceed 40psi.

Lastly, correlating a g-sum to psi and temp is a wonderful concept.

Totally! Just showcasing what can be played with, didn’t say it was super applicable. Showed it to Ray a while back and he was like “you’re on the right track with your thinking but 😬…”

Yes doing a plot with with visuals or corner min, lat G, and pressures could be fun. My intention to help with targeting hot pressures.

The temps aren’t surface (as you know) so it’s hard to draw much but im sure smarter folks than I could find something interesting.

Very interesting. I'd like to collect tire temp/pressure data...mostly to make my tires last longer. Tires ain't free!

I wonder if there is a flir camera setup that could be used like this...

open wheel m3!~ lol

if IR sensors weren't so expensive to buy.. it is dope.. you basically just set it up in front of the tire or inside the tire and it acts like a TMPS+Temp sensor.

What's y'all's trick tips for lodging on track weekends? Our group rate on hotels has starting being about the same as just booking yourself. I seem to be spending about $400-$480 for a hotel each time.

that's crazy. lol

as a SoCal resident i am fortunate to be able to camp either on track or at the motel down the hwy (10min) it's about $120 for a room.

if i stay at the track, i always book my own garage space and i just set up inside it over night. Heater + camping cot + square pillow and im sound asleep

I wish more tracks adopted on track cabins like Chuckwalla.. such a clutch.

I wish we could camp at VIR, but they block that during the CCA track days. There's a few garage listings, but they're up there as well since I think they only have 18 spots.

Book early with cancellation. I make reservations up to six months in advance to keep the cost down when I know the weekends it's going to happen.

The other option is weekday track days which are cheaper hotel rates outside of major cities.

This is the move. I’ve stayed here every time if lodging isn’t available at the track. Less than 15 minute drive to VIR, close to a grocery store/CVS if you forget anything and you pass several gas stations on the way in to the track.
Cheap, clean and close

Agree with the Danville hotel. It I remember correctly, as you turn right onto the road that goes to the track, there is a gas station that has ethanol free fuel. Although that could be a memory from the wrong track...

Attended competition licesne school with NASA on friday and had my first races. Practice/comp eval race friday (which I won) and three legit races over the weekend. The comp license school was in the rain all day which made things more interesting.

Sundays late race was the best for me, had a rough start getting pushed off in T1 thanks to the guys next to me getting bumped by another car. Came back on track in 11th (from 5th) and fought my way back to finish P4.

ok, thanks - I will go ahead and remove it. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't going to cause the car to do anything unexpected.
