Mgrady, no drama here, thats over with, Im over it. We just want you to be safe in your new car. Thats all, nobody wants any thing except for the safety of you and those around you.
And jussi, I never said the e46 M3 has poor handling, in fact handling is great, better than the S2K in my opinion. Im just arguing that those times are the result of the lack of engine power, down low and up high. That car's engine is a joke to me. But the handling is NOT "poor" PERIOD Done with the s2000 handling discussion. |

Its easy to fix the handling woe's of the E46 M3. You need 265-285 front tires, about -3 degrees of camber, good shocks, stiff springs. I had that setup for a while because I couldn't stand the stock setup on the track. When I got the lotus I reverted the BMW to stock and use it as my daily driver now. My complaint is you should not need to replace the stock suspension on a "motorsport" car to get decent handling out of it. |

There might be some changes that were made to the US model of the E46 M3 handling. I'll have to check. That sounds like something you definitely did not need to do on the euro E46 M3, CSL or non-CSL. Did you have original wheels and tyres on it?

Now the interesting thing to me is I had a chance to drive 3 diffrent E46 M3s back to back on the same test course a few months back. I drove my 2002 car which was stock, a 2002 convert with sway bars, and a bone stock 2005 convertable. I was easily the fastest in the 2005 car and it didn't have the issues of the earlier 02 cars. Its appeared to me they did some form of mid life changes to the car that took out some of the dumbing down. |

There were major changes in 06/2003. Including stabilizer bars in front and some suspension settings, the engine problems were fixed once and for all and there were countless other larger and smaller fixes, all of which may or may not have been different with the EU and US spec models. Oh don't worry. It will be much, much better. The E46 M3 will look as obsolete compared to it as the first E36 M3's compared to the 2003 E46 M3 CSL do.

Took some time to flashback and read some old post!!! some of the information posted by past members.....are really OUT there!!! especially the one about the E9x M was going to be over 450 plus hp and up until now...the competition edition M3/M4 does have that power output!!! they were probably predicting todays standards back then....lol

I remember this dilemma in late 2010 — 2 to 3 year old CPO M3 with several years of warranty versus 4 to 5 year old M5 with no warranty. I played it safe and bought the M3 but think I would have been just as happy or even happier with the M5. It’s faster and more comfortable, but still adequate in handling and 99.9% of my driving is on the street with most of that on the highway.
Still have the M3 and thinking about the next car. Fir a long time, it was definitely going to be a 911 Turbo (most recent thought was 911.2 Turbo in 2 years). But I have aged in the past 10 years and am starting to think instead about the AWD M5 or E63 AMG or Panamerica Turbo, possibly even the wagon version of the E63 or Porsche. |

Panamera Turbo 4.8 requires frequent maintenance (spark plugs, etc) so I would look into '18+ ones. I think 911 Turbo will a better choice in terms of reliability since Porsche has much more data with their flat six engines. I am sure you know but Porsche now offers up to 15 years of warranty extension globally for all models. I think it speaks volumes about the manufacturer's confidence with their build quality.
