Any thoughts on this price? 2011 e90 M3 DCT Jerez Black at dealer
Hey there first post here... I've been creeping the forums for a bit looking at f30 335i's, f80 m3's and m235i's.. I'm finally thinking about pulling the trigger on this e90 m3 at the dealer, but could use a little feedback with the pricing:
*Website link: http://cpo.bmwusa.com/used/2011-BMW-...830?zip=27410# *54k miles. *It seems to be decently maintained. *A "minor" accident listed on the carfax report. They fixed this at the dealership...I probably should've pushed them for more info. *They have this "quality renewal program" where they put on new tires, brakes, oil change on it and threw on a 2 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty as well as 2 years of free maintenance. *KBB puts it at $27k-30.5k for that year/mileage/trim. *The original price on the bmwusa website was $33,999. They later e-mailed me the dealer price of $31,599 (33.2k with tax, tags and fees) for it at their "low, No-Haggle" price and so I went in for a test drive. I tried to negotiate a little bit, but the salesman seemed a little firm with their no-hassle $31,599 price and I didn't want to offend him too much if no-haggle was their actual policy. I told them about the rod bearing issue too and to knock off some price for that, but they weren't willing to come down on it. Everybody in there knew about it the issue though and seemed kind of solemn/hush-hush about it when I asked them about it lol. I walked away and told him I'd sleep on it, but Idk - the $31,599 seems pretty fair to me considering there is a 2 year 100,000 mile warranty with the maintenance too. Idk if this is standard for used cars at the dealership when KBB does their pricing though. Any thoughts on a good price for this? Also in the market for a low mileage black 2009-2013 e90. |

Good luck selling the car one day with a "minor accident". Most buyers will not want the car. Look for a similar M3 at this price range with no accident. They are out there.

every single e90m3 i looked at recently (about 10) had some sort of minor damage to the body on carfax. It depends on the wording, if its a collision, vs just body damage. But yeah, not a single car i ran carfax on was squeaky clean, and all priced above what this dealer is asking, and none had a warranty. just food for thought.

I usually agree with BOOF on 99% of everything, he's a great contributor here, but I wouldn't shy away from a minor accident if I could determine EXACTLY what was replaced and what caused it. However, if I had option between two E90's, one 100% clean, one minor ding on title, Id go for clean obviously.

I'm not saying I'm against it totally. I'm just suggesting that when you go to sell it, it's much more difficult and people will talk you down in price. Forget about a trade in regardless of how small, dealers will knock a big chunk off. Have seen it first hand. I can't recall who said it but I think it was loveskiing who said you don't want a car with a story, especially one that you don't know the whole story behind because one day you will have to explain that story to a buyer and... If you feel it's discounted from what the exact car will sell for with a clean Carfax then by all means jump on it. But don't expect someone to jump on it when the time comes for you to sell it one day without heavily discounting it also. Just my 02.

Yea I tried to find out what exactly happened with the accident, but none of the sales people really knew what was going on with it. They referred me to their Body shop that they use, but the people there couldn't pull up anything from the VIN number.
Anyways, the crappy resale of this vehicle is something I'll definitely take into account: I'll probably offer them 26k on the car and see what they say.. that warranty is tempting. I did plan on keeping the car for awhile too... I appreciate the input from everyone so far. Edit: Yea they didn't like the 26k, the 31.5k was pretty firm apparently. I guess I'll look around some more. |

If the accident entry is that bothersome, can the body shop do a quick inspection? Do you have a paint depth meter - with that you could likely determine where it was hit and go from there.
I wouldn't bother offering $26K when their no-haggle price is $31.5K. You may pass on it, but someone else will come along and pay their price, someone who sees a beautiful M3 with no current damage. They only need 1 buyer. That's why I wouldn't necessarily run from it. Someday you will sell it, and you'll only need 1 buyer too, assuming you sell it yourself. Sure some/most may pass on it because of that accident, but it will sell, and w/o you having to completely cave on the price. Now if you trade cars in, then as BOOF says you'll get considerably less at trade in. But dealers give you nothing on trade-in regardless of accident or not, which I which I have never, and will never trade a car in. I personally wouldn't be that scared of it, but keep in mind there are other cars out there too. I mean, if the color, options, mileage, etc. check all your boxes, then maybe it's worth pursing. If they don't, I'd move on just based on that. Good luck sorting it out. |

yes i did, but i come from a unique perspective, as i have been in the auto body biz for many years. the car i bought had a non-collision damage on the history on the right rear. upon initial inspection i could not see any work having been done at all, which is a good sign that the work was done by a competent shop. Upon closer inspection, the qtr panel was repainted along with the bumper, with both panels being original to the car. also after checking with the paint guage, i can tell that there is minimal to no filler having been used.
So what does this mean, this means the first owner must have had a parking lot scrape or car was keyed, and 2 panels were repainted as a result. Does this bother me, no it doesnt, because the work was done very well and damage was cosmetic. Also the car i bought only had 2 prior owners, the latter having only put 13k miles in 3 years as a CPO car, and the first owner only put 25k miles during their ownership. Also car lived in a garage its whole life, which is very apparent as its twice as clean as my last e90m3. So to each his own, i dont plan to sell this car, its all for me. If i did have to sell the car do i feel that this non-collision claim on the history will affect the resale, NO. Why no, bc the car will look as clean or cleaner under my ownership than any other m3 on the market, and i can thoroughly explain any questions that a potential buyer mite have. |

This is what Carfax says:
Accident reported Involving right front impact Involving undercarriage impact Vehicle ran off road Very minor front end damage reported Very minor left front damage reported Airbags did not deploy It tells you the whole story. Car ran off the road, probably damaged part of the suspension, bumper and possibly fender/headlight. Says no airbag deployment so its a relatively, assuming here, light accident. Id have an independent shop do a thorough PPI and focus on the right front. Based on the current market, 31.5 is a decent buy. In a private sale, you could probably be looking a tad less, but you're dealing with a dealer. You already came in super low, its almost insulting but I like it when dealers get insulting offers hahaha. Id honestly go in, if you're serious, put a number thats reasonable down that you're comfortable and see if they bite. Be prepared to walk if it doesn't meet you desired area. Id bet you'd be able to get another 1k off and be in a good spot. That type of accident does not worry me as its relatively minor suspension bits that would need replacing and a bumper.

It will be harder and harder to find cars that haven't been in accidents as time goes on. I agree with the others that if it was something minor, and the repairs were done right, it wouldn't really dissuade me from a purchase. Ask the dealer if they will let you take it elsewhere for an inspection (on your dime).
CarFax accident descriptions use generic terms and they don't really reveal how they're applied. Based on what it says, it sounds like the guy swerved to avoid something and jumped a curb.

as long as the car checks out, go for it
you could buy the most pristine e9x M3 in the world ... and then get into a wreck during the first drive back also your car could outlive you because we never know when our last day on earth is basically, live a little!

I offered 29.5k on it, but didn't hear anything back. On second thought, I might just check the market a little bit more before I go back to that dealer. The car with the accident is okay and the price is okay with the warranty, but it almost feels like a waste as I drive pretty locally and don't plan on putting a lot of miles on it within two years.
I remember seeing a few well priced m3s in classifeds with throttle actuators and/or rod bearings already taken care of too.. oh well, back to the hunt. |

Regardless of the accident, the price seems high to me. Last spring I picked mine up with 62,000 miles with 6MT and Interlagos blue (arguably options that increase price) for ~$29k. I think you need to decide how much that "warranty" is worth to you.
Edit: The ad calls out 359M wheels but those are 220M on the car. Just a note |
