Don't let of the gas. This is the point of DCT. You can let off the gas but it is not necessary. Do not abuse the car but certainly do not be afraid to enjoy it. This forum is filled with knowledge but also fear.

It’s one of Those features that wear the clutches when you’re asking to go from 7th 2800 to 4th and 6000rpm, something has to make up for the huge diffidence in rotational speed.

You probably can do it but to each their own, it doesn’t kill you to pull the paddle a couple times.

When coming to a stop sign say in 5th gear, would it put more wear on the clutches to downshift a few gears into like 2nd? or would it be better to just use the brakes and let it downshift automatically?

DCT rev matches automatically. I find it weird ppl will use launch control without hesitation but worry about an automatically rev matched downshift. Which one is harsher on clutches?

Yeah maybe. Never use it anyhow cause it doesnt perform that well/fast, and much more fun to, click, click, click...go!

Personally I downshift completely into 1st if I have the time. If it's an abrupt stop I don't worry about it, and let the car do it's thing. Interested in see what others are doing.

lolol, I know not a manual but over the years I've found a couple of tricks that I often use LOL, now that I think about it, it's pretty lame:
- In S2, let off throttle, and downshift within <1s, will create the rev match blip. The reason I randomly do this sometimes, is I just like cruising in S1/S2 and randomly blip when I want it to.... sad I know, we have S4-6 for that
- In any S mode, let off throttle, and upshift multiple times, creates a seamless shift from 2nd to 5th for example.
- In any S mode, let off throttle, and downshift multiple times, creates a seamless shift from 5th to 2nd for example. rather than going through each gear

I only do it once in a blue moon though

Similar, except I only go to 2nd and let the car go to 1st automatically unless I need to the extra juice to accelerate and destroy an AMG off the line....

I usually drive around in S5 and use the kickdown downshift paddle feature when passing/accelerating. Is always staying in S5 bad?

Not in my view. The less clutch slip the better. Normaly use S4 myself to save a little something for the M button.

I actually agree that it feels bad to do this, but...

...I don't know that making multiple shifts causes any less wear than just doing one shift.

I would imagine that going 6th -> 2nd sequentially with rev matching causes less wear than forcing the clutch to slip from 2k to 6k rpm. I'm honestly not sure though. I don't do it because I think it sounds pretty terrible. I much prefer the little barks between each downshift.

I drive it like a manual transmission,if its an abrupt stop I pop it into neural real quick ,come to a complete stop, back into first when about to accelerate.

I drive S5 or 6 all the time ,change to D3 when in my subdivision.

Isn't the DCT still rev-matching when going from 6th -> 2nd like it does from 6th -> 5th -> 4th, etc? That is, my car 'barks' (great description!) a lot louder when I skip multiple gears than when it goes one at a time, but I always assumed that the louder volume was evidence of the downshift being rev-matched properly.

And if I'm honest, I just can't help myself but to make the car bark with a big downshift as I'm turning onto my street. There's nothing similar on the market for anything approaching the low cost of an E9x M3 for this kind of thing--a high revving NA V8 with DCT, that is.

Yes, what “gives” is gas. The engine rev matches first and then completes the shift. This is no worse than any other shift, and is outlined as an option in the manual.

People on this forum need to give the bro science a break.

Always in S mode. There's not much else to it. Just put your foot down and shift when the red lights come on.
