Issues with iPhone 4 integration and 2008 nav
Hello All,
First post here from a former e46 M3 owner! I have a question concerning the usage of an iPhone 4 with the 2008 nav utilizing the USB + 1/8th Y-adapter. I looked at a 2008 e92 M3 locally today and was disappointed to find that the car would not recognize my phone over the USB connection (using either the Y adapter or with a normal iPhone cable alone). It obviously did work correctly using just the 1/8th inch adapter, but this of course didn't allow control of the iPhone through the iDrive. I have used this exact iPhone running the exact same software version (4.0.1) in a September 2011 build date M3 car and it worked perfectly, allowing me to dig through the music on my phone using the iDrive (even displaying the album art, which was very impressive). I did attempt a search on this subject but didn't dig up anything relevant. Is there a software update available for the 2008 vehicle that will allow it to explore the music on the phone through the iDrive? EDIT: didn't see the subforum, feel free to tow.

It's possible. Wouldn't recognize it at all through the Y-adapter (clicking from AUX to USB just had USB greyed-out). When I attempted to use just the iPhone USB cable (no y-adapter) it allowed me to click over to USB in the menu but gave some error along the lines of not recognizing the device.

Likely is a bad cable. Take it to the dealer and have them swap out a new one and check your software codes to see if you need an update. I have an 08 M3 coupe and an iphone4 and mine works fine. Only message I get is that it's not a supported phone which I also got with my iphone 3GS too but it works fine thru i drive as well as charges and BT recognizes and downloads so no problems here. Good luck.

My 08 and iPhone4 work just fine. I've heard that BMW came up with an updated cable at some point. You my have the old cable. For $70 your dealer's parts department can rip you off for the new one.

Did anyone get this cable and find it to make a difference? I have an 09 M3 and my older Iphone 3G worked great. I bought a new Iphone 4 and the music does show up but the music sounds horrible for some reason. Any others here having issues??
