Hi guys! I just wanted to say that this thread helped me tremendously. Especially the tips on using binder clips. Anyways, I installed the F10 shift knob the other weekend and it went exceptionally well. I did a full how-to video...maybe it can help others!

Nice work. I'm sure that video would help others. Never hurts to have more how-to's.
My only comment is I pulled my knob off with no trouble by sitting on my center console, putting the car into 4th and pulling towards my chest. |

Update on the F80 M3 knob install. The boot size seems smaller than the F10 ones presented here, and most importantly the leather thickness is exactly the same as in original E92 M3 boot. The knob seems to be the same as F10 M5 - weighs 185g.
This thing feels way better than OEM knob. When I compared these two the OEM seemed like a cardboard prototype rather than something to be put on a production car. BMW cheaped out on this one. Here are some pics of my application. It took less time and effort than I expected and overall I am pleased with the result. I went with paper clips, trimmed the excessive leather and then glued it as recommended

Another one to add to the collection. The install was definitely easier than I anticipated it to be after reading through some people's experiences in this thread. Mine didn't give me any trouble trying to pop off the old knob or trying to get the ring clipped back into place with the new boot. I did use a wooden roller to compress and mold the leather as much as I could along the trim ring though so maybe that helped with the clearance problem when reinstalling. It was really helpful comparing with other people's pictures to get a good sense of how much material to trim away and luckily it has just the right amount of slack

Ughhh, this is such an annoying project. Same issue here (cannot snap the ring back into the center console).
I'm wondering if stretching the leather is messing with the shape of the ring (twisting it), which is why it won't snap back into place. I think I'm going to try and velcro it into place instead of relying on the clips. |

Finally got it done. I think the leather misshaped the ring which is why it wasn't clipping it into place. Oh well, I took out the rest of the center console and hot glued it into place. Not going anywhere now!
Not super happy with the install, but if it bothers me enough I'll buy another shift knob and give it another go. |

It just looks so right at home. I've loved this shift knob ever since I got my E46 ZHP which came with it stock (unlit of course).

Used an F80/82 knob and it fits pretty good. I didn't glue any parts, just lined up the holes that go around the clips and then trimmed a little bit of excess but very minimal needed to be trimmed. Might take it off and trim slightly more off the back and towards the driver side.

Am I alone in that I feel the OEM knob is the perfect height and fits in the hand just right for this car? I've installed the M5 knob in a previous E92 and while it did feel nice it was kinda short. I wish the OEM knob had a little more weight to it, but I also wish it weren't so expensive either !

LOL, never thought I would be reading about how to get a shorter "knob". I have been using the ZHP in my 325 and M3 for about 11 years and while it is perfect, it is time to get a new one since it is getting worn out. Is the M5 weighted the same as the ZHP since I find it perfect.
