Race silver vs. Anthracite
OK -- I'm a serious wheel whore. I've got three sets of Apex wheels in part because I need to rotate dry and wet tires for SCCA FS competition and go through three sets of tires a year. So I've got two sets of 18x9/18x10 EC7's (mixed Anthracite fronts/Silver rears) and one set of ARC8's which are silver. My car is Melbourne red so I think the silver is a better contrast and looks closer to stock ZCP. What are your votes since I have some flexibility. The anthracite pairs look like they need a little more attention so my inclination is to match them to silver rears. What would you do if you were in my situation -- go anthracite or silver?

Do you wash your wheels often and does your brakes dust like crazy (especially race pads)?
If you wash it often then Race Silver might look better since it seems like youre more inclined in getting that for aesthetics (based on your personal opinion, you think silver is better contrast etc etc) If you don't wash em often, then to be honest does it really matter cause wheels will get caked up with brake dust half the time anyways. Personally i really like Anthracite and i will go with those =D But you really cant go wrong with either. (side note, powder coat you wheels gold/ bronze!! red + gold'ish color = iron man combo lol, actually looks pretty nice on some cars i have seen that sport that haha. cheers!)

I keep the car and wheels relatively clean because the wheels are constantly being changed which means handling them. Superstitiously, I don't clean wheels or car just before race days as that is a guarantee of rain IMO. I've got another set of anthracite ARC's for another car (335i) and spare pair of anthracite ARC8 18x9's left over sitting around.

Personally, I like the anthracite better. Darker wheels have a more menacing look that appeals to me.
Good luck with your first world problem! . No real wrong answer.... |

Not going to lie. That looks good but I'd love to see a side shot. I've seen my car with ARC8's in anthracite and my assistant who is tired of see wheels in boxes votes your direction.

I was going to find that pic above and post it in here. Anthracite for sure..... Even when caked in brake dust, you can't really tell, the color hides it well.

Nice!
I have the silver Arc8's on my MR E90M3. They're kinda 'bright' but they look good. For autocross go with the darker wheels.

I also have a set of 18x9/10 Hyper Black ARC8's in the garage which are essentially a shadow chrome silver. They look nice.

Here's another which contrasts anthracite (up front) and hyper black (in the rear) in ARC8's. Don't ask. I'm a wheel whore.

Since your kidney grills have chrome outers and you have chrome side gills/markers, I think Race Silver ties everything together better. If you're planning to switch to gloss black or black chrome kidneys and side gills/markers in the near future, then anthracite would be the better match.

I was in the similar dilemma and chose race silver over anthracite. Silver is classic!

I guess my big issue was that Apex EC7's look very much like the original ZCP wheels which I've sold off because I have too many sets of wheels and wanted all be 18" with RE71-R's or Rival S tires for purposes of competition. By keeping choosing silver, I keep one set which looks "stock-ish" if you will, and could have the second set in anthracite. I hate to say it but one of the best attributes of anthracite is it completely hides brake dust.

looking good! Just received my new set just like yours. Trying to decide between PSS and RE71-R... and RS-3's..... :/ only thing keeping me from RE71 ing it is the ability to drive it on the street and not heat cycle them, and the wet traction (live in Vancouver, so it rains a bit) Thoughts? |

In my experience, the RE71R's did not heat cycle out and were utterly tremendous in the wet until you got down to 1/32 where any tire is sketchy. Still blistering fast at 1/32 in the dry.
