Feasible to switch out stockers/BBK w.r.t the seasons?

Basically wondering if it makes sense to buy a BBK and only use it in summer months. I live in a city that has horrid winters, and I think that a BBK is completely unnecessary in the winter months. I was thinking of getting a BBK (maybe one that doesn't even fit under the stock 18s which would be winter rims) and switching it in when I would change my rims to the summer setup, and switching it out when I would change back to winter rims.

How long would this process take? Does this make any sense? I would not like to put unnecessary wear on the BBKs and I think overall this would allow everything to last longer.

Opinions welcome.

Of course tracking - I can never understand why someone who does not track would get a BBK...yeah they look nice, but 6-7K just to look nice is stupid...

It's feasable, but it's around $400 for install/flush around where I live. Unless you go to LTBMW.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

1. You can get a BBK that fit under 18" wheels. Many here have reported excellent performance with a smaller diameter set up. AP, Brembo, StopTech all make 18" wheel friendly set ups.
2. You can get a 19" winter set up.

Remember, when you switch out BBK, you are switching calipers, brackets, brake lines, and discs. You will also need to bleed your brakes afterwards. Quite a tedious process IMO.

honestly i'd just leave them on throughout the year and get some 18s that will clear the BBKs

1- that's not really the concern. It would be nice, but not necessary. The main issue is the useless wear and tear in the winter. How much do rotors for brembo/AP kits cost (ballpark)?

2- I ordered the car with 18s and do not want to sell them. Also, 19" winters are harder to find and 19" wheels hurt where I live lol...

Overall, how long would this whole process take (switching them out)? I see what you're saying though...

Switching out the brakes is actually easy .... 2 giant bolts for the bracket .... and three small bolts for the rotor.
What sucks and takes time & 2 ppl ... is bleeding the brakes properly everytime you change from OE to BBK and back.

Otherwise, it would be easy and I would do it if I lived where u do.

Makes sense and that sucks...lol

But let me ask you, if a competent mechanic would do this - how long would this take?

Most shops are gonna quote you about 3-4 hours.

Wear and tear during winter on your rotors will be much less expensive vs. labor of putting BBK on AND off annually (6-8 hrs).

Makes sense. Do you know what the average price of rotors are for the AP/Brembo BBKs?

I live in Toronto, had a BBK on my last 3 cars, don't worry about the winters. Don't waste your time or money swapping it out.

Replacement rotors are $$$, but they last much much longer then your OEM ones.

Can you define $$$ because I want to get a sense of what to expect (PM me if you want). Thanks for the advice.

Brembo 380mm rotors and necessary hardware, each corner will probably run you $800 to $1000. Double check this figure though, don't want to stray you wrong.
BUT, they last a very very long time. I would say 3 to 4 times longer then OEM at least, with track use.

So it ends up being the same in the long run ($$). And you get much better quality...Thx

You would be amazed how many cars here see no track time with bbk, there are a handful of them.

I know...and it makes absolutely no sense to me...Compared to the stock set-up, I have actually read that the braking in regular situation is not improved or even a little worse (especially with some more track-tuned pads that come with the BBKs)

dont get the bbk yet. Try aggressive pads and ss brake lines. You'll be surprised how much punishment the stockers can handle. Unless u're trying to do this more for cosmetics.

No way I'm getting one yet. I posted in one GB Brembo thread that hasn't seen any action lately, but if they quote me <5500 (which I highly doubt) I will go with it. Plus, I am leaning highly towards AP because I think they are better designed (their calipers just aren't as nice!).

I am planning ahead - the upgrade will be in 2-3 years or when the stock brakes are 100% finished.

Sorry bro, thanks for the offer though. I have already ordered SS lines and pads so I'm good. I got the UUC lines because they have higher pressure ratings than all the others, and I got the Cool Carbon pads based on recommendations - and given that I am new to tracking, a not-so-great pad wouldn't really affect my life too much if they end up sucking...

I had a 365mm kit for about 65000km(3 winters) in Toronto's weather.. I only had to change my rotors cause my dealer gave me bad info on my pads remaining.... definitely not worth swapping in and out. But I did notice that my rotors had unusual rust spotting around the drilled holes... other then that, it worked perfectly fine.
