Question Where to invest money?

Rather than just let it sit in savings, I am thinking I should take, at least some of, the $ from my MS6 that I just sold and buy some more stocks or maybe more in an ETF or who knows.

What are you investing in these days?

I always have it multiple areas. I have two tech-heavy ETFs that have a lifetime return of over 40%

My day and swing trading is low-risk in blue chip but I dabble in energy and biotech every now and then. Amzn has been good to me, seeing similar returns like canadian maples did a decade ago.

If you're talking about a savings account... get that money out of there, it's doing nothing. What is your savings interest rate? 0.01%? Maybe 0.1%? 1% if you're lucky?

I would really try and get advice from people who do this for a living (CFPs, etc.) rather than ask a bunch of random people in OT.

ShopVac Industries. Return on investment sucks...may not see much of the original money back...but it goes to a good cause. I heard they accept PayPal for ease of investing too.

When you say sale of the MS6...is that MazdaSpeed6?

I'd invest it with me if I were you. I promise a 11.6% return each year, guaranteed, before management fees. The management fees are 21.6% of the AUM and deducted automatically each year.

Seriously - don't ask people in OT.

Interest rates are rising. Ally and Capital One 360 automatically change their savings rates, Ally is currently at 1.75%. Even when interest rates were at their lowest they offered 1%. I know it is no 2006-era ING Direct 4.5% unfortunately.

Yes there are smarter investments to make but if you're waffling or keeping some cash you can at least put it to some kind of better savings.

For investing, that's a tough call. Vanguard has several easy options. If that is too difficult there are a number of robo investors now, or depending on the amount you can get active investment.

If you're serious about asking the internet on investment advice go read up on reddit's personalfinance forum and check out bogleheads.

Aw, come on, we can still give the guy some solid advice that may help him.

Here's a couple dos and donts, IMO:

Dont - Take advice from anyone on this forum or any other on specific stocks, ETFs, bonds, real estate, etc. to invest your money in.

Do - Talk to a couple professional financial planners who can learn your whole financial situation, your goals, your tolerance for risk, your investing timeframe, your investing knowledge, and tailor some investments specific to you.

Do - Ask each professional you talk to how they are compensated. Do they make money off individual funds by recommending those funds to you? Or, do they take a straight % off the top? In my early days I had a financial planner who made kickbacks from the various funds by recommending them to clients like me. Surprise surprise, he did quite well for himself and my investments languished.

Yeah for all we know, people in OT could be 10 year old kids giving advice on investing, right?

DETRoadster brings up a good point about commission and profit for the "advice" given to individuals based on funds / recommendation, etc.

I don't know how you feel about this but personally, but I can't absorb any financial advice from someone whose net worth is just their annual salary (ie. they spend beyond their means / are unable to save).

Invest in real estate and stocks. My house I brought in 2012 has appreciated over 200K. My brokerage account is up 55% since I opened it in 2015. Cars generally speaking are a bad investment, but that's now what I brought mine for.

All I know about investing is that 99% of people are not able to beat the steady returns of the market... you may get lucky... you may not... but most billion dollar hedge fund managers cannot.
