WOW, mine was not THAT painful. I came from a CIC system with combox. I just put a MOST terminator in the trunk and was good to go.

The hardest part (believe it or not) was getting the damn headunit to fit with the retrofit harness and wires. I ended up putting the eNBT adapter above the left footwell area.

The iDrive controller came out nice, I removed it's trim ring and it fit much better. Used hot glue to hold it in place, so far so good. The coding part in Esys was fun, had to figure that one out on my own. Ends up the car has no ZGW so it gives a ton of errors but allows gateway coding. Got the navi working, no longer dances all over the place!

I'm not able to get tire PSI or oil level though. Any thoughts on those code values?

Coming from a CIC system with combox is much easier because you only have the amp and combox in the trunk, versus amp, tcu, mulf, satellite, and hd radio tuner. Terminating one loop is fine, but when you do two or tree you start getting signal loss. In my case with all four removed the signal wasn't strong enough to get any sound at all.

I didn't use any hot glue to mount the controller - I had to dremel the controller quite a bit though, but in the end it fits snugly and I didn't have to modify the trim piece much.

Using the retrofit harness was an impossibility with the lack of space behind the dash, so I made a custom harness and eliminated any unnecessary wiring to make the installation as clean as possible. Originally I was going to use a retrofit harness to save time, but after fighting with getting everything to fit I scrapped it.

I haven't looked at the oil or tire screens yet, but those will both show in the instrument cluster.

Wow, yeah. That is a big job.

I was RIGHT there with you regarding the retrofit harness. I ended up dremeling a bunch of plastic out on the lower-left side of the cubby so I could squeeze it in there. I was very close to cutting it and doing my own harness. I can see the appeal of having it be PnP but in reality there just isn't enough space back there. I'm afraid to take it out if I ever need to, as it probably won't go back in.

What sucks, is after ALL of that, the damn CD/DVD drive doesn't take a disc. I guess I shouldn't care, never used it before. And now I have more flexibility using a USB drive.

Weird that yours won't take a disc. They slide in and out for me perfectly, didn't have to do any alignment or anything, I was surprised that worked first shot.

Does the touch controller use the same cables as the old CIC unit? Eventually I want to do NBT EVO retrofit but if I get a good deal on the controller, can I plug it in right away? I realize that touch won't work obviously.

If the termination of unused most wires is causing db loss in the light signal why not remove some unnecessary runs at the junction box? The order isn't necessarily important. All you have to do is treat it like a series loop (TX to RX). Yank off the rear seat drivers side panel it's right there. They even identify the TX & RX with black corrugated tubing on one and not the other.

Random question for you Mike,

How do you find your volume level since switching to NBT?

I noticed my volume dropped quite a bit from CIC. Some tracks actually require max volume. It's loud enough, but the volume certainly doesn't go as high as my CIC did.

I have the Dirac system and it's coded properly.

Thanks!

Junction box is behind the glovebox. I did modify the MOST loop configuration to run to the AMP only in the rear and then back up to the front of the car again.

This looks like a crazy install for my 5/2010 build E90. I take it, it would be about the same craziness you did BPMSport ?
