Heres the racing line for the Ring as it was published by Sportauto and BMW M (completely biased racing line you may say). The color line is the racing line, the black boxes are the brake zone and the yellow dot is the point "where to start cornering." You can see that in most bends the cornering start point is at the end of braking. As I said there are some bend combinations in which you're braking while cornering (no yellow point on the map). But in the other bends you see that there's no to very little curve in the braking zone.

This is entertaining. Now for the rebuttle from Ruff.

Hijack

Ugh first I get involved in hi-jacking&OT-ing my own thread then Ruff and South really not only double hi-jack but continue to (beat the dead horse, not really "repost" per se). No worries, it's all in the sake of good debate and honor...or somethign like that .

Sorry for the hi-jacking. Anything says me that it's finished now.
Will Ruff forgive me trapping him...I don't know.
Now we can go back to your hurdles, Sw

Thanks, that term was useful. It seems to be common on motorcycles, not so on cars. I've read that some BMW driving courses teach how to trail-brake when you went too quick into a corner. On the map of the Ring I posted yesterday it's meant as a possibility in 2 corners only. So we're talking - again - about the exception where this may make sense.
Maybe that's more common on the US ovals...

Best regards, south

EDIT: Oh, I forgot, it's also useful for overtaking another car, but not for the fastest possible time...

south, yes it's more useful in overtaking but not exclusively. and it is common on road courses not just on ovals. maybe that particular interpretation of how to drive the ring doesn't show where to do it but that's just one interpretation.\

ps : we don't all drive on ovals here..

As I said that particular interpretation mentions it for two corners of the 20 km course! Maybe we should start a poll: "Trail-braking" or not...

Best regards, south

I haven't driven the ring, so i wouldn't be qualified to comment on how to drive it, trail braking or not I have driven road courses in the US where it is used. Again, it is specific to track, conditions and driver.. i will say that brake fade whether trail braking or not is a major issue in a performance car. i've read conflicting reviews of this, so will wait till more first hand information is available.
